The Inheritance Games

This book has a million reviews so what more can I say? I loved it from beginning to end and I couldn't seem to put it down. With every chapter ending I couldn't wait to start the next one. The writing was superb and the character development was excellent. I enjoyed how different each of the Hawthorne brothers were in their personalities. The little bit of romance didn't hurt the story either. Also, I liked the first-person perspective of Avery Grambs. I liked seeing how the story unfolded from her point of view. It makes you think, 'What would I do in the same situation?' All in all it was a great book and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was an engaging and fast-paced mystery full of twists and turns. I really enjoyed the puzzle aspect of the story — it was fun to follow along as the characters solved each clue and uncovered new secrets. The game-like structure of the plot made the story feel interactive, and the constant reveals kept me hooked. The Hawthorne family drama added tension and intrigue, making the mystery even more compelling. I never felt like the story was predictable, and each new clue added another layer to the mystery. Overall, this was a clever and entertaining read that balances suspense, puzzles, and drama, making it hard to put down. A solid four-star read.

I bought this for my 11-year-old, who already enjoys reading. As a parent, I always want to make sure the books she reads aren’t too mature while still being engaging enough to keep her excited about reading. This book has been a great balance for us.After just one day, she had already made it to Chapter 11 because she couldn’t put it down!There is some content that parents may want to review beforehand to decide if it’s appropriate for their child. For our family, it wasn’t an issue, but every child is different. The book does use substitute language—for example, instead of saying the “B-word,” the character says “beach.” If your child isn’t quite ready for that type of humor or language, you may want to wait until they’re a little older.Overall, it’s been a fun, engaging read that’s kept my daughter motivated to pick up a book, and that’s a huge win in my opinion.

This is book is so captivating. Once I started, I couldn’t stop reading. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

First, the story is great!! I love the characters and will read the sequels to see what happens but with that said….It’s rushed. It’s also really predictable. There is so much ability to create a world for a reader to get lost in and it’s just not there. I realize it is meant for a YA audience and while the concept is definitely YA, the writing is not. It’s for a much more juvenile audience from the mechanics of the story structure.This book should have been two with the first one setting up the world and life style. It reminds me of some telling an elaborate story but then only getting the cliff notes version. Or better yet this reads like it’s the readers digest version of a better book.I wish you could have had the big conclusion at the end but could have drawn out the initial hunt so not so much was revealed if one wanted to keep it at the particular length. Or add 200 pages and flesh it out better. While it’s just under 400 pages, the writing is large so in a standard paperback it would be a lot thinner of a book. It definitely doesn’t read like a best selling author.But to end on a high note- the story pulls you in, you just want more of it. Now off to read book two.

I'm on the fence as to whether I'll keep reading the series. Book 1 was fine, had some interesting developments, though I am not fond of sibling love triangles. It may come down to having so many other books I'd like to read, will this one make the cut? I'm not sure yet.As to my recommendation, I'd say reading book 1 is worth checking out to see if you'd like to continue with it as it has enough to guage some interest.

She has a knack for keeping you on the edge of your seat. I found I has having a hard time putting this book down. The character development is top notch! Each character truly has a personality that is conveyed exquisitely throughout. As you read, you grow right alongside the characters.The relationships are palpable! Jennifer makes readers feel the tension, heartbreaks, pain and humor of the characters.The Inheritance Games is a MUST read for anyone who loves puzzles and a good mystery!
