Replaced old one with no outside key locking
Fit perfectly in my sliding patio door. Old lock would fail to lock properly and was insecure. Also, it could not be opened or locked from the outside. This one has a lock with a regular house type key. Easy to install. But after moving and changing locks quite a few times, I still cannot understand why the bolts that go thru the door are so hard to install. They have thread all the way to the end, and it is very hard to line them up with threaded hole in the other side, which you cannot see, and cannot feel with the square end of the bolt All it takes is a little shoulder on the end of the bolt, so you can feel when it is properly lined up with the threaded hole. Manufacturers take notice!!!

Decent for the Price
Having removed and replaced a few parts of a sliding door handle and latch before, the overall install was pretty standard. As many others mentioned, the hardest part will likely be cutting the two metal bars (one for the inside, one attached to the lock) that insert into the latch. See the end of the this review for tips I used to make the install easier. It lines up with the price and does feel somewhat cheap when operating the interior lever to lock or unlock the door. It kind of moves freely for a bit before actually doing anything which just seems to be related to the design itself. You might have to play with the tightness of the two handle screws to get the best movement without the lever moving too freely or being too hard to move. The included lock feels pretty cheap as well and using the key feels really stiff. I think after a couple weeks of use it should break in, though. One nice thing that our prior handle didn't have is the ability to flip the actual lock around depending on the way your door opens. There's a metal bar with a screw in the exterior handle that you can remove to take the lock out and flip it. This is nice if you care about the orientation of the key when you insert it into the lock. Just a nice touch. Beyond the cheap feel of the lever and lock, the actual handles feel pretty good in use. Overall, it's not going to win any awards, but it's functional and relatively straightforward to install if you've replaced a handle and latch before. Install Tips: I would recommend a hacksaw for cutting the two bars since they're relatively cheap if you don't have one already. I used a clamp to hold down each piece and then took a few minutes to cut through the metal. It's not really hard, but something like tin snips won't work. Just hold each piece flush with the door edge so the metal bar goes over the latch area and then mark the halfway point. That's where you should cut. Start longer and work it down if you need to. The two bars should basically end up 50/50 inside the latch. As for the latch installation, I always put the latch into the "locked" position with a screwdriver before trying to insert it into the door. This way, you have something to grab onto when putting it into the door. Also - tie a string around the latch when it's sticking out and put a screwdriver through the lower handle holes from one side to the other in the door. Both of these should help prevent you from dropping the latch down into the door. Finally, you might want to get longer screws to attach the latch to the door. The included screws are really small and were maybe 1/3 of the size of my prior latch's screws. I was able to reuse the longer screws and it seemed to hold on a lot better.

Decent value, simple install with the right tools
This handle/lock set fit my door well. I didn’t even have to change out the latch part. Once installed, it worked smoothly and has a sturdy feel to it. The installation does require some cutting of the flat, metal pieces that engage with the latch assembly. They are too long, likely to accommodate thicker doors so I’m sure it will need to be cut regardless of the type of door you have. I put the lever on one side and the lock set on the outside as they would be installed. Then I marked them both where they intersected in the middle. The idea is to cut them so they both engage the latch assembly. Cut them too short and one or both will not engage the latch assembly. Cut them too long and they will either not fully tighten down or will bind (or both) as they butt up against each other in the center. Once marked, I put them in a vice and cut with a dremel tool (as others have mentioned). If no dremel, a pair of clamping pliers and a hack saw will work too. It will be more of a challenge hold them while cutting though. Once cut to length, the rest is pretty simple. You may want to file off the burrs after cutting. It works great once installed. Key is smooth as is the latch engagement. I have been using it for a couple weeks now and no issues. I will update if anything changes.

Works great, sturdy, but annoying to install.
I saw a lot of bad reviews so I was worried it would be a waste of money but for me the everything works perfectly. The only reason I’m giving this a 3 star is because it was complicated to install. The instructions were unclear, not to mention having to cut metal parts for it to fit right but as a 20yr female I managed to make it work (TIP: hammer out the metal stick from the little lever and use the same metal stick from the key attachment- then cut excess). Make sure before you screw everything together that the key hole is place correctly (this part was extremely annoying) if placed wrong, the key will get stuck and won’t come out, so just move it around with the key to make sure your able to take out the key (trust the process- it takes awhile to find the right spot) also used a little of WD 40 on the key lock metal stick, it was a bit tough to turn the key beforehand. Overall product works great, sturdy, but annoying and tricky to install. (Edit: 3yrs later and still no issues!)

Did not work for us
Was very difficult to install. The instructions are terrible. Once it was completely installed it doesn't work well and have to be very specific with locking it, or else it will not latch properly. Edit: The wife was too kind. The instructions are garbage, the latch is unbelievably finicky, and the only reason we kept it was to avoid having to drive an hour to return it. I was able eventually make it function adequately. The latch side has no markings to assist for cutting, so you better have a cutting wheel or bolt cutters. The piece that attaches to the door frame itself must be positioned specifically in such a way (with no guides, instructions, or templates) so that the door mortise catches in a very narrow window. Too low or to one side, and the latch will retreat into itself without fully extending (unless you slide the door at the half locked position), too high and there is no point. The keyed portion of the latch must be aligned and tested separately, as the metal rotates independently of the cylinder. And if it is not lined up properly, the key will not be able to lock the door or be pulled out of the lock when in place. In order to combine the two pieces, you can use the screws that pass through the door. But to ensure you get the screws into the correct receiving hole....you have to pull the other handle away from the door enough to see that it will line up but not so far as to pull the metal tab/latch out on the key side. See note above on the key going out of alignment. Good luck. Finally, how does this have a 4 star review?? This product is getting complaints and reviews with 3s and 4s, but the attached reviews are horrible. People need to knock down their star count to match what they're saying, and maybe the overall product star count would match what their experience was.

Be attention at the write review above.
Very good. But you’d be better to notify that customer needs to check the straight item holes are same as the existing ones.

As advertised.
Works well, just needed a lot of adjustments for my door. It installed okay, just make sure you are handy and have metal cutters and files and a lot of patience.

Really bad install instructions
If I had never installed these before I would have had serious trouble installing this handle/lock based on the instructions supplied and as the handle/lock was shipped it was not installable at all. I had to make/remove part changes to the lock to make it work period. If I hadn’t needed it right away I would have returned it. So if you are not a very handy person I would reconsider your purchase based on what I received in the box.

Worked perfect
This fit our door perfectly after the old lock broke,. still works and I'd buy again if needed.

Functional but requires significant modification
I’m giving this three stars because while it eventually worked, getting it installed was a massive headache. The screws provided with the set were not the right length for a standard door thickness. If I tightened them all the way, the lock lever would jam and wouldn't move at all. If I loosened them even slightly so the lever could function, the handles were wobbly and wouldn't stay secure on either side. I ended up spending a lot of time on a "manual fix." I had to go out and buy longer screws and then carefully cut them down to the exact size needed to get the tension just right. It was a huge hassle for what should have been a simple replacement. I only kept it because I couldn't find another compatible model locally—it was definitely a "beggars can't be choosers" situation. It works now, but be prepared to do some extra hardware store runs to make it fit correctly.
