Positives: The unit is capable of recording (in my case 3 cameras) easily to attached USB or eSATA. Setup is easy if you are familiar with networks and all the gear you are hooking up. It's small.Cons: Out of the box the unit didn't work on HDMI at all, and had to use VGA. Planned on using network to connect instead of video, and not sure why HDMI is bad. Saving files is nearly worthless unless you are connected with VGA/HDMI since network save has yet alluded my abilities (and my abilities are very well developed). The manual is Chinglish at it's worst with instructions nearly worthless and unit is really Chinese in design as well without the standard controls and methods of interface one would desire in the USA either using Mac or PC. The unit is glued together and the ports in the side are also not fit well that I needed to use a flat screw driver to force the USB port to line up for insertion. Finally, the playback is also nearly useless with not enough processor to handle video capture and playback (apparently?). If one stops the record then playback almost works.Bottom line: I would not suggest this unit if you plan on using it for a business for accurate and reliable NVR needs and that goes for small business. However, if you are simple curious and want to dabble with a really basic cheap NVR it might be fun for you to learn all the wrong things they did in its creation and what to look for in a real deal NVR. I gave it 3 stars for effort and determination to oversell a very basic model that needs a lot more work. Consider it learning throw away moneys like buying a book except you have hands on learning.

Update 01-2017: Was not recording on some new cameras....The network scan configured them for I9 (i9).When I changed them to ONVIF then recording started working.---------------------------------------------------Too bad there is zero support. Bought this to save 7 bucks, should have gone with the Branded ESCAM version (not much better support in reality).The device works if you are an expert and know everything about everything with Ports and config of the camera.The BIGGEST issue that is a SHOW STOPPER, you cannot select OSD (on screen display) to display Date and Time on the video stream. You can overlay the Channel Name, even after you change it.When you chose OSD, and Save, it says FAILED.Once this happens, the device loses all streams for 5-7 min. A reboot fixes the stream, but you still cannot add the overlay.Totally useless if you can't overlay the date and time.For $32 bucks (what I paid at the time) it is not worth the time to box up and ship back.UPDATE 2015-12-15:Well after a few weeks working with this thing, I have to say it is operational and works well.The firmware bugs that I was referring to: * Time wrong/off 12 hours even with NTP enable, and Time Zone Set - Workaround: Set NTP on the actual cameras, and enable OSD on the camera feed, so NVR does not overlay any data * OSD (On Screen Display) is very buggy, it does not work, and when you attempt to set it, it kills the camera stream for 2-3 min. - Workaround: As above, label the camera AT the Camera Web InterfaceThe workaround is a solid solution for one specific reason I use. I do not allow any clients to attach to the NVR, as that is just a recording point, like a black box, no one should get into.I configure all the clients to connect to the individual cameras directly.This also eliminates processor saturation of the NVR and lets me configure the specific user with the cameras the need to see, not ALL of them if there are some that are not necessary.Outside of that, I actually could not find any of the standard IP Camera apps that would connect to the DVR, but that matters not in my configuration.

I just purchased this little device and I like it a lot. It was very inexpensive and has everything I need. Just to be clear,since there are many devices listed here, I got the CT-N6200-8EWORKS, attached to these devices :- WD My Passport Ultra 2TB Portable Hard Drive, USB 3.0,- TP-LINK TL-SG1008P Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE- 2 x Foscam FI9853EP Indoor/Outdoor Dome 720P Megapixel Power Over Ethernet (POE) P2P IP CameraI did not read any instructions to set up (I never do). It seemed like an easy setup. It has tons of advanced features that I have yet to explore. But so far, everything works perfectly.I only have 2 cameras connected, I ordered 2 more. It's supposed to handle 8 at 720p. I guest that if I need more i can get another one to handle the rest of the cameras.I'm even thinking or getting another one just for viewing purposes. It seems far better than running a long wire across the room.My observations are :The nvr takes about a minute to boot with the hard drive attached. Without the hard drive boots right away.USB powered hard drive works. Your don't need powered drive.USB mouse worksUSB keyboard does not workVga works Good.Hdmi does not work trough a hdmi splitter. Still haven't tried without the splitterThe image quality is good, but the ones using the in - camera sever trough the Web browser look better and smoother. However this might be because of bad setup or because I'm using the Vga connection.On power up, makes a loud beep.Powers down very quick.Comes with the power supply.It's very small. Like an apple TVI might update this later, however don't hesitate to buy this and play with it.Reviewed on tablet so I apologize for any typos.
