Western Digital RE WD4000FYYZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive - OEM w/3 Year Warranty

Just ordered in Apr 2024 and drive is faulty and after checked, warranty is out. Better to order from China Taobao than amazon, since seller is selling old stuff.

These drives are being hawked all over the place but most are used and at EOL (end of life) service conditions. They may have even started to fail. No so with the one I received. Pros: S.M.A.R.T. status showed zero power-on hours and no defects after the first long SMART test. These are - in-fact - brand new drives from "old" stock. This same drive WD4000FYYZ was picked over the WD Black series for gaming and high data throughput applications by several notable reviewers. It even has the more advanced actuator that the Black series does not use. Designed for stand alone or RAID operation. Vibration is undetectable. Noise level is low enough. On par with WD Black drives. Cons: It's not new from "current" stock so AFAIK WD will not honor the 5 year warranty. Not a 256Mb cache. I didn't buy two of them. :(

Like any unformatted drive, you will need to format and get everything setup before using it. Lots of YouTube videos to help out there. The install itself was as easy as plugging in the SATA cord and power. Your case determines how easy that is. Then secure the drive in your case. Literally less than 10 minutes for my case and it only took that long because I made the wires look nice. The drive works very well. It accesses quickly. The only slight complaint is the drive is somewhat noisy you will hear the clicking as it reads and writes. Part of that is the mounting in my case, part of that is the rest of the computer is almost silent. In a normal case and anywhere there are noisy or background drone from fans, you will not hear it in most instances. The storage capacity is excellent and I will buy at least one more for all the videos we produce.

the drives are what i was expecting and seem to be working OK. However, delivery took longer than original date even though I paid for expedited delivery. I think that the reason for the delay was the delivery service, not the hard drive provider.

Drive failed after 25 days. Called Western Digital for a replacement since there is a 1 year warranty advertised on the product page. During the first call a recorded message said that due to high call volume I should request a support session by text. After selecting "yes" I got a "service not available" error and was disconnected. Called again and a recording suggested the WD website chat. Tried the support chat option on the Western Digital website but the link is broken - returns an "undefined" error. Called a third time - this time I got a person who transferred me to technical support. After a few minutes of silence I hear voices talking in the background as if a headset was left unmuted, then I was disconnected. If it takes hours of my time to return a $50 drive I won't be buying WDC products for myself or my employer anymore.
