I replace my casual loafers/slash/driving shoes every year, when the stitching on the toe box wears through. I decided to at least try to do some repair and recovery on the old ones, and needed the heavy thread for that task. I'll be the very first to admit that I'm not a shoemaker or repair tech, so the thread, needles, recoloring dye, and learning process are new territory for me. It turns out that my uncalibrated eye doesn't match the 1mm thread thickness I ordered. I used a machinists' caliper on the old stuff, but after comparing the old with the actual new, my measurement is only off by about 100%. I doubled up the thread and call it good. For the length needed to stitch each toe box cap, I started with 12' then added 50% for possible estimating error. So about 25' of thread, expanded to about 40', then folded with a curved upholsterer's needle pulling the doubled-over loop. It was -barely- enough to double stitch the toe box. Do I lake the thread itself? Yes! It's strong, flexible and waxed enough to pull through 2 and 3 layers of leather, and not so stiff that it was a chore managing it all from the beginning. Pass the needle through two or three layers, don't get tangled. Pull the thread through then straighten any twists so the stitches lay flat, rinse, repeat. Until everything has been stitched twice with a cross stitch crossing back over the first layer. How's Bob's workmanship? I judge it OK for a first try, and more than sufficient for another year of service from the shoes. An hour of work on the two shoes worked out to not a financial bargain, when I consider that the supplies totaled somewhere around a local hour of minimum-wage labor. If I place any cash value on the time I go instantly negative. Still, I got to practice some on a new skill, kept a nice pair of driving shoes/slippers out of a landfill, and just maybe they will somehow dramatically improve the canyon-carving abilities of a seventy-plus driver of a thirty-plus year old German GT coupe. Or maybe it will be just a bit more comfortable just moseying around, looking fast but driving slow.

I love this string. It’s the second time purchasing. The yarn quality it perfectly waxed. Pilots are beautiful. Price seems to be fair. Doesn’t have a whole lot of stretchiness.

Great selection of colors . I opened light pink first and was unhappy with the amount of wax on it. Very messy!! Was thinking of returning it. Glad I did not as all the other colors are fine !

This is a nice thread, but for the dark red, it is alot darker and more purple toned than it is in the picture. works well for bookbinding though

Strong, flat, waxed, and great for leather crafting, whipping rope ends, and for anything else you might want to use a light line for. 273 yards goes a long way no matter how it is measured, but it is well worth the price.

I received the same item as it had promised the post, so 100% satisfied. Oh, and less days to deliver than I expected, a plus.
