How is the jr version different from the original version (that got over 2000 positive reviews)?

There are only 6 items on the card and kids recognized quickly learn to recognize the animals. Note, there are also only 30 cards in this version. The original has 55.

My 3 1/2 year old grandson doesn't quite get how to take turns at a game, but he definitely knew what to do. I'd say somewhere around 3 and up...it's kind of like the game of War, so older kids (8+) might still enjoy it. Good game for a group of mixed ages.

I bought this for and played it with my 5-year-old non-English-speaking granddaughter. There are at least three different ways to play the game, and after she learned them, she did pretty well with each game method. I would estimate this is a good game for age 3-1/2 to age 6. Once the children start to recognize words, you can move up to the Spot-It game that includes a mixture of words and pictures.

Suitable for a 4 yr old?

Yes our 4-year old loves it and can keep right up with the rest of the family. Received it last year when he was 3 1/2 and has been playing with it ever since. His 6-year old sister loves it too. Fun family game.
