So i broke the 2 peices apart and where the spring is i noticed oil like gel on the spring that made the brush open and close is that oil safe ?

The oil is probably used so the springs don’t rust or stop working well. It’s probably the same type of oil used in salon scissors and clippers.

How does this differ from using a regular wide tooth or detangiling comb while flat ironing?

It firmly secures each strand you are flat ironing between the comb and the holder. When I use a regular comb it is not controllable and this works so much better.

Can this be used for men?

My hairstylist used it to grab a little bit of hair at a time to smooth it out before she straightened my hair with a flat iron. So it's for anyone who has hair long enough to smooth out.
