The diameter of the gauge’s stem is 3/8"=9.5mm. You could add a plunger to extend the length as the contact tips can be changed. However I'm afraid of that would affect the precision. The toltal length for the stem and plunger is 1.9inch=48mm (not included the tip length).

can this be used with a drill press to find the center of round stock? thanks

I use this to set up front and rear axle gears it's used to fined the back lash.

Excellent quality dial indicator set.

This product exceeded my expectations for quality and value for the money. It comes in a nice case too. The magnet is strong enough and all the pieces used for adjustment are great. No burs or misfitting parts at all. If you’re in a pinch and need something fast, this will do.

Okay but..

This is an okay kit. If you are a professional this cheap of a kit is obviously not for you. For the avg. DIYer around the house though it works good. I have used it to check run out on sprint car axels and since its not NASA I am confident in the readings. Accurate enough for what I need. The magnet is not the strongest and the adjustments are a little bit of a pain. If you need something that will "work" for cheap this is it. If you need something more accurate and professionally built this is not it.

Paid for itself from one use

I used this to troubleshoot my vehicle shaking when braking. I was going to have both rotors resurfaced but was able to use this indicator to determine only one side was out of spec so it saved me the cost of doing the other side. It works well and the magnet seems strong. I dropped the indicator once while adjusting it and it didn't cause any damage. Great for DIY use.
