The Bhagavad Gita, a wisdom classic from India, was written down 3,000 years ago from an even older oral tradition. It has been translated from the original Sanskrit into over 75 languages worldwide, and into English in more than 300 editions. Ranchor Prime, an author of several books on Indian philosophy and culture, has translated this edition into English as one of the most accessible versions for the general public, especially those interested in the deeper meaning of the Yoga tradition as a time-tested self help guide. The Bhagavad Gita is one of a small number of revered wisdom texts that transcend their faith traditions, such as the Bible, the Qur’an and the Dao De Ching. Einstein, Emerson, Thoreau, Jung, and others have celebrated the Bhagavad Gita as a book of profound teachings that apply to the human problems of our contemporary world as much as they did at the Gita’s inception over 3,000 years ago. The Bhagavad Gita (along with the Yoga Sutras) is also one of the two primary books that delineate the original Yoga teachings of India. It is used by many yoga teachers in their training programs worldwide. Ranchor Prime, an English (UK) author, broadcaster, and ecological activist, initially wrote this edition for his children, but it is far from a childish book. Rather, he has created a version of this classic that is accessible to an adult Western audience in a way that few of the hundreds of editions translated from the original Sanskrit have been. At its heart, the Gita deals with the mysteries of life: the nature of the Self, the Universe/Higher Power, and the World. Spoken on a battlefield, it is a conversation between the soul and an Avatar, a Divine Being. Ranchor Prime's version is distinguished by his nonsectarian approach, making the Gita relevant to those of all religions or none and emphasizing the link between spirituality and self-development. The section-by-section commentary opens the text to the spiritual seeker. Prime never loses sight of the audience for his book, and of the fact that he wants his readers to understand the Gita in a personal way. Anyone who has ever asked, “What is the purpose of life?”, “Who am I?”, or “How do I find peace of mind?” will find something of value in this book. Here is an invitation to discover the essential wisdom of yoga for today’s world. Review: Without deviation and easy to understand - This is the same Bhagavad Gita As It Is previously translated and explained by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami without any deviation. Ranchor's presentation makes the "Song of God" much easier to read and understand by omitting the original Sanskit verses and their subsequent lengthy word for word transliterations. His chapter summaries are thorough and succinct enabling readers to fully embrace this knowledge and realize the relevance of these ancient texts in our everyday lives no matter where we live in this world. Review: Rebirthing the Bhagavad-gita for 21st Century Readers - I've been attending weekly classes held at our local public library based on Ranchor Prime's, BHAGAVAD GITA, TALKS BETWEEN THE SOUL AND GOD, for the past three months. My first ever copy of the Bhagavad-gita (Song of God) was BHAGAVAD-GITA, AS IT IS, translation and commentary by his Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivendanta Swami Prabhupada, was given to me in 1968 at the Boston Airport by a Hare Krishna devotee; and, although I tried to read it during my flight to Toronto, I mostly studied the pictures which were, I thought at the time, somewhat strange and scary. I was at a loss to know how one with a Christian background should engage in reading sacred Vedic literature which, in this case, opens on a battlefield in which Krishna (God) is speaking to His dear friend and pure devotee, Arjuna, about the moral and philosophical issues inherent in/to warfare. Keep in mind, too, that 1968 was not a great year for young American troops fighting in Vietnam and their family members and friends anxiously awaiting their return, not to mention the fact that the Krishna Consciousness Movement itself was relatively new to the collective American psyche and, as such, potentially threatening to many. Personally, I never could 'unpack' my first copy of the Bhagavad-gita, although I returned to it intermittently over a span of forty plus years before I eventually found myself in the company of advanced devotees who were able to help 'open' Srila Prabhupada's wonderful book for me. Having written this, I urge anyone who is even remotely interested in becoming familiar with the Bhagavad-gita to read this book. Ranchor Prime was inspired to write it for the benefit of his own children. He, a Krishna conscious devotee of long standing, elected to pare-down the text by deleting the verses written in Sanskrit as well as the awesome and rather heavy pictures one finds in Srila Prabupada's work while remaining faithful to the essential spiritual/philosophical messages held within the original sacred Sanskrit verses. This work brings a refreshing and non-threatening sense of Vedic scripture to 21st Century readers of all ages. And, advanced devotees will find new discussions points and enriched meaning/s in the Bhagavad-gita by acquainting themselves with this contemporary work; plus, it makes a super nice gift!

One of my favorite versions
I have read many different versions of the Gita, some easier to understand than others. Ranchor Prime's version is easy to understand while not sacrificing any of the ancient wisdom from Bhakti. It is great for anyone regardless of their faith.

Amazing book!
I absolutely loved reading this particular version! Being a first-generation Indian American, I was on a quest to find a Bhagavad Gita rendition that truly resonates with my personal experiences. The author's exceptional writing style and insightful explanations have truly made this version stand out. Additionally, I highly recommend the audiobook as it further enhances the overall experience.

Practical spiritual guidance for everyday life
The Bhagavad Gita has been around for 5,000 years, offering spiritual guidance for all aspects of life. Originally writing this version for his teenage children, Ranchor Prime has brought the ancient wisdom down to a level where it can be easily understood and applied. While the Bhagavad Gita originates from what is now India, its wisdom goes beyond any region or religious path and offers spiritual guidance and encouragement for anyone wishing to lead a God-conscious life. I recently purchased this book for a jail inmate, who promptly started to share it with fellow inmates because of its usefulness and applicability in all situations of life.

Beautiful translation with commentary
This translation of this beautiful text is filled with the whole essence of Bhakti. It came highly recommended by a teacher of mine and I absolutely understand why. If you’re interested in getting to the crux of Bhakti, this is a must read. If you’re interested in learning why The Gita is such an inspirational text, read this version.

This translation, now.
I read the Bhagavad Gita in my twenties. We were protesting the Vietnam War at the time, and I didn't like Krishna telling Arjuna he must fight. I didn't understand the idea of illusion. There were few translations available back in the 1960's, none able to find common ground where we Westerners might enter the ancient dialogue. This translation is the one I wish had been around back then. This gives a few verses of the Gita and then a few paragraphs of explanation, like notes, opening them to the reader. This is one for all spiritual seekers, in this time.

Trustworthy easy to follow commentary
This Bhagavad Gita commentary makes understanding the transcendental message of this sacred text much simpler to understand if you haven’t got a mentor with you to guide you through Krishna’s message. I really appreciate how the author summarises various verses in an understandable way, he makes it a little less daunting and more manageable particularly to those new to reading spiritual literature. It’s hard to find a trustworthy commentary other than Srila Prabhupada’s ‘Bhagavad Gita as it is’, this author has taken shelter of Srila Prabhupada, you can trust this commentary. Highly recommend, particularly to those who have struggled to follow other versions of this text.

The Yogis Bible - plus fantastic delivery
This is staple for all who are on The Path of enlightenment or spiritual awakening. It brings all things in perspective from a spiritual point of view, and offers moral and ethic guidelines to live a life in harmony. The person who delivered drove to meet me on the highway to deliver this very special package, and I truly felt it was a god-driven intervention, which you learn more of in the book. 10/10

Lovely translation
I am pleased I purchased this and read it. Compare to some of other people translations I read, this one was the most easy-to-read translation. Entry level to Bhagavad Gita. I wish I read it years ago, so that Bhagavad Gita didn't put me off for years! It's fun to read, lovely translation. I have already read quite a few translations of the scripture and Bhagavad Gita is my favourite. If anyone wants to start reading, I recommend this translation first, then maybe move on to others.
