What are the directions for use, please? No directions on the bottle.

Before drying your hair, put a small amount in your hands and work it through your hair...then blow dry. Too much gel and your hair will look heavy, just gradually start out with the gel until you find the correct amount for your hair. It really adds texture to your hair.

Humectant vs. retexturing gel? i've used pomade for years. now that i'm spiking my hair, i'm wondering if it's time to switch.

First, It is marvelous. However, to spike my hair I also use DiFi. I just put on the tips of my hair. The Aveda I use first and from my roots outward.

Is the product fresh and look clear, or older and dark yellowish?

What I have received has always looked fresh and clear, and worked perfectly as expected. The photo of the product here does look a little suspect, but it is actually not "older and dark yellowish", at least not what I received. I have purchased this many times over the years, and it is always just fine.
