It is listed as being fire resistant, not fire proof. There is a difference between the two! We keep all of our car titles and important papers in this safe but they are safely tucked away inside of fire proof bags that we also purchased on desertcart. It is not going to be water tight either. There are holes in the bottom so the safe can be bolted to the floor, which for me is a plus. The main reasons I love this safe are: - It is perfectly sized for home use and can be easily hidden out of sight. - There is an adjustable shelf on the inside which allows you to put more things in there without having to pile everything on top of each other. - You can bolt it to the floor or to a wall. - It has BOTH key and touchpad opening. We looked at safes for a few weeks before deciding on this one. It is heavy but doesn't require two buffed out grown men to carry it. That was also important to us because when it was delivered, WE had to carry it in the house and put it into place. It's perfect for what we needed and I'm very glad we bought it because it gives me peace of mind that my valuable items in my home are under lock and key. Review: Fire Proof Electronic Digital Safe met our needs - The safe is sturdy and simple to use. The previous reviews that this safe was excellent for the price, weight and quality were accurate. The only problem was the instructions on how to use the safe were stuck in the door and we could not open the door until a lock smith who was repairing a another lock for us, was brave enough to pull it out without leaving fragments in the door so it could be opened. We are very happy with it so, we give it full marks with the caveat that the manufacturer should place the instructions in the box.

Would not recommend to anyone
If I could give this less than one star I would! Purchased this about 4 months ago, was opened less than a dozen times, and a bolt sheared off inside, so can't open properly. Contacted them and was told that it is our responsibility to pay shipping, which is not cheap, to send it back to be repaired or replaced, as it was more than 30 days since purchase, and that is the warranty, policy can't be changed. I have spent my life in customer service, and know that policy can always be changed. Asked for a supervisor, and told there is no supervisor. Absolutely shoddy workmanship, or would not have broken with less than a dozen times being opened! Would not recommend to anyone...horrible experience.

Very pleased with this purchase
This fire proof safe arrived and performs exactly as indicated in the Amazon ad. Let me provide more details. First off, the packaging wasn't the greatest. The box looked like it have been through a lot and wasn't in the best of shape. Once I cut the box open (from the bottom) I lifted it up and away from the safe. I cleared away the packing material (which was somewhat crumpled) and examined the safe. It was NOT damaged in any way. Its not cracked, dented, or scratched at all. The bottom is not bulging and the safe sets perfectly flat on the floor. The door does "rattle" in the closed position (just a very little) but no more than what you'd expect. I don't think adding weather stripping to resolve that problem is necessary; as its not a problem. I didn't have any problems storing 2 different combinations in the keypad, the key pad works fine. I also tested the lock out feature by entering the wrong combination (on purpose) and the lock out feature worked. It beeped continuously for 3 to 5 minutes. When the beeping stopped, the keypad was reset and ready to enter another code. The keypad does beep with each key stroke; that doesn't bother me but it might some people. One concern I have was that the keypad appears to be little more than a plastic calculator on a steel safe door. I tested the keypad by hitting it 3 times with my crowbar. Now, I didn't whack it with all my might, but I did hit it pretty good all 3 times. The amount of force I used on the keypad I don't think most calculators would have survived. The keypad seemed to absorb the force from being struck by my crowbar and continues to be fine. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure if I kept trying eventually I could break into the safe with my crowbar. Either through the door or breaking off the keypad, but that would take some time and a lot of noise making effort. After all, its NOT a bank vault, its a home safe. I assumed the 4 pre-drilled holes for mounting would be on the bottom; but that's not the case here. There are 2 holes on the bottom and 2 holes on the back. The mounting hardware leaves a lot to be desired. I'd like to see brackets to attach to the underside of the floor making the mounting much more stable. I'm going to close off the 2 holes in the back as I'm not sure how they'd effect the fire proofing if they were left opened. All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I'm going to buy the brackets to mount from under my house which is a bit more than most people would probably want to do; but I think its well worth it as I don't plan on buying any more safes.

No issues so far
I've read a lot of bad reviews about digital safes in general, but so far I've not had any issues with this one. It's heavy and very spacious inside. It claims to be fire proof/resistant, but hopefully there's no need to ever test that out. Keypad works fine without any issues. It was not that hard to figure out. I don't even remember the instructions, there's pretty much one button to press, then code in your pin. I do wish it was little easier to open the door. You basically grab the lock turning mechanism. It's really not that much of a nuisance, just something that could be nicer. It does come with mounting bolts, so I don't understand why people complain that a thief can haul it away. I consider this a starting safe. If you have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and whatnot, you can spend more than $160 on a safe. For the rest of us, who just need to start important documents and some small electronics, it's perfect.

Bang for the buck is good I think.
This seems to be a good size safe with a good fire rating at this price point. I gave it a low star rating for two primary reasons. The lock mechanism seems very unrefined and poor quality to me. The shelf mounting is also really screwy and low quality. With the build quality issues, I have my doubts of whether it will live up to its fire rating. Hopefully, I will never find out. I should note that I have had the safe for about a month and opened it several times. I have had no issues with the mechanism whatsoever. It just seems poorly made to me. I really don't think you would have a problem with it, but I wanted to give an honest rating based on what I perceive the quality to be upon inspection.

Satisfied with value and Amazon Description
The degree of fire protection described [no pun intended] is the major reason I purchased this item, primarily for wills [copies] and associated documents, and closing documents for 5 home purchases. The interior is more spacious than I had visualized, so there will be room to store recent tax returns and other items not previously protected. Our small safe deposit box will be better utilized, as several items will be moved back home. I like the idea of another reviewer in adding additional weight with barbells. Having access via key or by combination is reassuring, and two different combinations are allowed. The stated degree of fire protection sounds adequate, but I hope to never have it put to the test. The Amazon price of $169 I paid is an excellent value.

Massive QC Problems
When I was a kid we used to call stuff Jap Crap. Now if you can get it from Japan it's world class. It seems like China's the same was now as Japan used to be. I wonder if they'll ever climb the hump and deliver quality products. I ordered three of these for Christmas. One for each of my two boys, and one for myself. Mine arrived without the red reset button inside the door that allows you to set the combination. Thanks to Amazon, I sent it back. Dodged that bullet. Fortunately, both of my son's were in good shape - per expectations. But I had a very nervous Christmas anticipating that one or both of them would have to be returned as well. The safes are adequate for their intended purpose. They are heavy, and can be quickly opened with a combination. I hope this will keep my grandchildren safe as dangerous items (in the hands of children) will be stored within them. They also come with mounting hardware, which is good enough to discourage a thief - I guess. I would love to have one of these to just try and rip apart. I really can't tell if I could have one open in ten minutes or if I would be forced to give up on it after an hour. But it's better than just leaving valuables lying around. Again, I can't say enough good about Amazon.
