Can it be activated with water?

Not sure what you mean by activating with water. It is sticky on both sides. You use solvent to install the grips once the tape is on the golf shaft...

What type of solvent is required? Mineral spirits?

I use Golfworks solvent, but I have used turpentine and mineral spirits in the past. I even used gasoline before.

How thick is the tape

It’s not super thick, but it’s still thick enough to hold. If you’ve ever gotten any clubs built before, this tape feels exactly like that. Really good product.
