The Ultimate Guide to Vintage Transformers Action Figures Review: A Great Transformers Reference Guide With Strong Photos - An excellent resource! I own Mr. Bellomo's earlier Transformers Guide, as well as his updated GI Joe guide, and several of his other books. While I have enjoyed Mr. Bellomo's earlier Transformers guide, I felt that the photography could have been stronger. Enter this new edition, and the photography issue has been squarely addressed. The photography in this book really pops and makes a big difference. We get clear and colorful images of the toys, often in nice poses accompanied by accessories. This book chronicles the US G1 Transformers toys by year, starting in 1984. Included are the domestic releases of Transformers, with a brief write up on each toy, photographs of accessories, and multiple photos of each toy. This guide is a useful reference for toy collectors who are looking to re-live their childhood, (re) acquire the toys of their youth, and want to ensure that any G1 Transformers they now obtain are in good condition and complete with all accessories. The book also serves as a fun dose of nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the 1980's, loved Transformers, and would like a trip down memory lane. Highly recommended! Review: it is a complete and fun read, great for having handy on the shelf ... - where can i go with this? i find that reading (or just flipping through) this guide is not that too far removed from the feeling of doing the same with the old fold out product inserts or christmas catalogs from when I was a boy in the 80's. ...the difference now being instead of daydreaming about future packaging to be opened and battles to be fought it is insight into those memories made so long ago. magic is magic, whether you are young or ...more seasoned ;) from a purely more practical standpoint the guide is made to Mr Bellomo's usual high standards. quality construction and printing, exhaustive detail on not only the toys themselves and accessories but the back stories, histories and variant information as well. it is a complete and fun read, great for having handy on the shelf at home or for going out into the wild on a hunt. you'll not be disappointed!

Here at last!
Finally, a second edition of the long out of print first edtion. If you're interested in G1 Transformers, this guide is the be-all-end-all, from vintage toy expert Mark Bellomo. The guide is chronological, with pictures of every Transformer in their robot and alternate form, with history, bios, and other pertinent information for each one. There are also approximate price points for each, but these aren't written in stone, as the author tells us, and are susceptible to market fluctuations. Nice to have though, all the same. If you're interested in collecting this toy line, or even just casually interested in Generation One Transformers, this is a must own book! Supporting this author will also mean other great books like this on other great toy lines! Strongly recommend!

A must for serious G1 Transformers collectors.
As good as it gets for serious G1 Transformers collectors. Not only do the pictures let you track your toy accessories, but the text from every tech spec is inside! If only the packaging could be shown as well, so fans could see how these toys were originally marketed. Also, Japanese release entries would've been a great addition, but all that would've required a lot more space. Regardless, this is the Transformers G1 collector's guide you want.

Great guide and Marc Bellomo always delivers
Great guide and Marc Bellomo always delivers. Already used it bunch of times to get the proper value of a toy that I was trying to find and buy. Definitely recommend this book for anyone who is a transformers collector. Not only does this book give you fair market value of the toys to help you make sure your not going to pay to much for a Generation 1 figure, it gives you pictures of all the accessories and weapons that each figure should have. This can make sure the figure your looking at, has everything included with it and make sure it is complete.

This full color book covers 286 pages of Transformers
The detail of the book is great in that the illustrations are perfect, and show multiple forms of the figures, in robot or vehicle/beast mode. These are the classic figures from the 80's mostly, and the book covers 286 pages of Transformers. While I enjoy the book and its descriptions, the only two things I feel it's missing would be the original retail prices per figure and the box art. The box art itself is a huge part of the charm of these Transformer figures, so to have a book as detailed as this without it is slightly disappointing. But don't let the 4 star review discourage you, this is an excellent book with a beautiful design and layout of the figures, in full color with thick, shiny pages.

Add this without hesitation to your figure guide collection now. Another great Mark Bellomo book!
This is another exhaustively researched Bellomo classic and a great companion piece to his previous works about Transformers, G.I. Joe, vintage Star Wars, and 1980s toys. Every classic Autobot and Decepticon is thoroughly documented photographically with all accessories and variations. Biographical and relevant collection information is also provided about each bot. The information is presented in chronological order and is grouped by team (Targetmasters, Insecticons, etc.). An index in alphabetical order is also provided and is greatly appreciated. It is evident from the quality of this and his previous works (which you should also own) that Mr. Bellomo puts an enormous amount of time and effort into each tome. Money spent on his work is money well spent.

There have been a couple of guides to the Transformers toy line released over the years, but this one is by far the most complete, detailed and definitive one yet! Published in UK magazine-style format, and almost 300 pages in total, 'The Ultimate Guide to Vintage Transformers Action Figures' by Mark Bellomo offers a season by season guide to what would later be referred to as the 'Generation One' toy line. Featuring every Transformer ever to grace the toy store shelve or a young childs bedroom floor (or imagination!) during the Generation 1 period, starting with the original 1984 series that included classic mainstays such as Optimus Prime, the Autobot cars, Megatron and the Decepticon Seekers; all the way through to the final 1990 series that included the likes of the Micromasters and Action Masters - and every Transformer in between. Special teams, Jumpstarters, Headmasters, Triggercons, Pretenders - you name 'em - theyre all here. The entry for each Transformer comes complete with the characters biography (including motto and function), their 'tech specs' (listing their level of strength, speed, firepower etc), and also their current market value in Dollars. Each entry also comes with full colour photographs of the Transformers robot and alternate forms, as well as accsessories, and useful commentry and trivia from the author about the toy covering topics from legal issues, the origins of the toy, or the characters role in the animated series. Also included are entries for the various mail order exclusives that fans could obtain if they obtained enough 'robot points' (which were tokens printed on the packaging of every Transformers box), such as a transforming digital watch, the Powerdashers, the Omnibots, Reflector, and the S.T.A.R.S Autobots Command Centre. Its a brilliant read that should be considered an essential purchase for any dedicated Transformers fan, was clearly written by one of our own in what must have been a real labour of love, and comes with my highest recommendation!

Being a Transformers collector, this was a must buy. I use this along with the Japanese Transformers Generations book all the time when making purchases of vintage figures. Pros: - Great pictures with a decent price indicator - Interesting additional information - Nice layout, easy to follow Cons: - Doesn't provide much information on well known variants - No information on Japanese released figures from Victory, Masterforce etc Conclusion: It's a great guide book for North American released vintage Transformers. However I would love to see another version/addition that incorporates information on Japanese figures. Also, while no fault to the author, the problem with price guides is that prices fluctuate. A few years ago, Headmasters and Targetmasters used to be found fairly cheaply, but in recent years the prices have increased greatly. While the guide book offers a good indication of prices now, it's very easy for it to become dated.
