How can I get extra soft pads

Order the brushes on Amazon, look for the "spin clean" brushes as they also fit the studebaker unit. I couldn't find where to order any studebaker brushes. The spin clean brushes will fit perfectly.

How many records can be cleaned with the solution that comes with the kit?

I just got this a week ago. I have cleaned probably 25-30 albums and still have plenty of cleaner left. Hope that helps

Yes, the product comes with a clear plastic lid.

Does the MDF base hold up well vs splashed solution? (why not all plastic ?)

It all is holding up fine'; although it sounds as if you are a heavy user. The solution is added to the 2 little brushes which wipe the disk surface; so I don't have much liquid at all going to the bottom base. Good luck
