Actually, YES. If your backup lights don't come on unless you fool with the shift lever, then it's likely this part is worn or the shift lever tube or cable is worn. But this part being out of alignment will cause backup lamps to not work.

Does this part fit a Nissan Xterra

Sorry Dorman doesn't offer one for the Xterra.

Says it will fit the 03 mustang, now it doesn't. Will it fit a 2003 mustang?

I bought this and installed it on my 1999 Expedition and it works fine. When I reviewed my order for this for my 1999 expedition it now says it does not fit! It sure seems to work.
