with what do you apply the rutland creosote remover to clean the chimney

The product comes in a granular form. The directions are to build a fire using kindling and once it gets going good I add some wood that is approximately 2" in diameter and let that burn for 15-30 minutes, then I pour 1 scoop full over the embers. It starts crackling right away so I close the fire place up. After just one fire I can definitely tell a difference. The whole inside changes from shiny to dull and I can then use a chisel or just a small putty knife to scrape the creosote off. It's a dirty job so you'll want to protect you floor. It absolutely gives me peace of mind!

I have a 3 story chimney. Will this clean all the way to the top?

I have 15' of 6" stove pipe and after 2 years and 5 cords of wood I got about 1 cup of ash out with the chimney brush. Works great.

Is it safe to use this without sweeping?

I would recommend that you regularly *inspect* your chimney - with this (very good) product, you'll find that you have to clean your chimney less but you should still check it periodically.

So, is it ok to use it regularly without brushing the flue after each use? I gather people do just that, but I wonder if that is what the label says.
