I’m giving this five stars as I have no reason to provide a lower rating. While many reviews claim these aren't real silver, I suspect there may be differences from batch to batch. At current scrap prices (approx. £1.14/gram), buying 25g of silver hooks for £5 does seem remarkably cheap, which understandably raises questions. I performed a few home tests to verify: Magnet Test: Silver is non-magnetic. While brass (commonly used in jewellery) is also non-magnetic, these hooks passed the initial check. Smell Test: Base metals like brass usually have a distinct metallic odour; these hooks are odourless. Bleach Test: Real silver oxidises and turns black very quickly when exposed to bleach. I soaked two hooks, and they turned black within a minute. Cleaning: I was able to polish them back to their original shine using just a bit of toothpaste (see my before and after photos). Regarding comments about the hooks losing their shine over time: this is actually a sign of authentic silver. Oxidation is a natural process; if silver isn't worn, it turns black, but it can always be polished back, I use toothpaste at home. So far, these hooks have ticked all the boxes. The only other thing to watch for is "yellowing" wear marks over time, which would indicate a plated base metal (you can also scratch one with a knife to see if a different colour shows underneath). The only way to tell whether this is 925 silver or not is to take them to jewellers, however the tests are costly.

Very nice silver earring hooks

Not good. Corroded within a couple of weeks. I realise they are not solid silver but must be very thin plating or some other metal I guess? Am too late to return order so have re-ordered from a previous supplier
