Question 2

The vertical rods are about 47.5". Can I cut one to make the height of closet around 72"? Instructions say mark closet at 86.5",  confused about it.

The vertical rods do not need to go the height of the closet unless you plan on placing shelves very low. Also the vertical rods do not go all the way to the ceiling but instead 4inches below it.

What is the Weight capacity using the complete length of the unit?

I don't the weight. I made sure the main line was connected through studs.

I can tell you, both winter and summer tops/bottoms/coats hung on it. My young adult daughter had it packed, in her beauty room.

I've been pleased with this product. I love the flexibility.

My closet is nine feet long. Are there options to buy al a carte pieces, like another vertical rack to mount?

We found that there exist compatible Rubbermaid accessories that are sold at hardware stores (such as Lowes) or online, but they are overwhelmingly available in white color only. We needed extra verticals and a few extra shelves to match the configurations closet kit in stainless steel, and we found that these were either hard to find, or very limited in selection AND extremely overpriced (e.g. we bought a whole kit for 90 dollars, but two extra shelves would have cost 25-30 dollars). For that reason we actually purchased a whole other kit, because it ended up being cheaper than buying a'la carte. Had we purchased the kit in white, the a'la carte selection at Lowes would have been more affordable and the selection is certainly larger (e.g. verticals in various lengths, brackets in various widths and shelves with various wire mesh size). Just something to keep in mind as you plan your closet color. We'll be buying this kit again, but in white for our other closets.
