Affordable, sturdy and sustainable.
These are great storage cubes: perfect size for my needs, they look good, but are also lightweight and made from recycled, sustainable materials that are surprisingly sturdy. First one I built was a bit tricky and the sides fell down on me a couple times before I got the hang of it. Second one I had done in five minutes. No sweat. Putting the cubes together was actually kinda fun. Here are a few tips: 1. Use some wood glue for an easier build and sturdier final product. Just dab a little in the dowel holes before you put the dowels in. The adhesive tape is adequate, but it goes smoother with a tiny bit of glue. You don't need a lot. 2. Don't get frustrated when the first couple pieces don't stay upright on you. It takes a tiny amount of practice. After you put together your first cube, you could probably start cranking out like ten an hour. I think some of the reviewers here gave up too quickly and did not use glue like I did. 3. It is not meant to be picked up from the underside of the top piece, especially when there are books or other items inside. That will pull the top off. No adhesive is that strong. Screws in particle board aren't that strong either. Pick it up from the bottom or take everything out of it before you move it. Use common sense. That's pretty much it. I shopped around a lot for similar products but I kept coming back to this one. Finally I gave it a chance and I am glad I did. If you consider yourself capable of assembling a box, you can do this. It is cheap and lightweight, yes, but for all the right reasons. Best of all: Sustainability!

Literally the worst product I have ever bought
Literally the worst product I have ever bought. I have purchsed three different models of this, and all of them are complete junk. Where to start. Maybe literally the worst product I have ever bought, anywhere. First, when it says the technology is ‘paper’ they aren’t kidding. These things weight ‘ounces’ and seem so fragile I would be afraid to put more than 6 ounces on them. Second, the ‘tape’ they use is such a terrible idea, it doesn’t work. Period. It’s not strong. Also, on SEVERAL of the pieces I tried to assemble, while trying to remove the ‘backing’, which would leave the double stick tape on the piece as need, the WHOLE piece of tape just peeled away from the product. It was then literally impossible to get the tape back on the product. This whole design is just terrible. See my photos for what happened on the piece the tape DID stick to, when I tried to pick up the piece to move it. Also, the units are designed to be ‘stackable’. Or so it claims. But the completely open cubby has NO peg holes to allow you to stack on top of other units. The cubby wiht the shelf does, the unit with the doors do, but the unit with just open space, no. Um, WHY. Do NOT waste your money. I wanted to build a little four unit thing for some office organization. Instead, if I can even return the ‘pieces’ I’ll do so, otherwise it’ll likely go right into the trash. It’s junk. The cost I spent for four pieces would have bought a proper particle board or MDF shelf, held together by screws that would simply work. Lesson learned, and you have been warned.

If you know what you are buying, these cubes are amazing!
So if you are looking to purchase modular cubes made of mdf or compressed particle board, these aren't those. These are different. They are assembled differently - with adhesive strips (not just because it's inexprensive but because it is simple). Yes, it will hold - perhaps not at first but this type of adhesive grows stronger over time (as does most permanent adhesives). They are also very light and at first you will think that is because they just made of cardboard and cheap but that is because you are living in a paradigm where you believe that for a modular storage cube to be 'sturdy and capable' it must also be 'heavy and made of compressed particle board'. This isn't true. I waited to leave my review (waited a full two years) and I can now positively assure you that with daily use and abuse in my craft room that these cubes are not only strong, sturdy and capable but reliable and stuffed with crap (both heavy and light). I now have 6 of these cubes, set of 3 columns of 2, and I used plastic bins to in them to keep all my craft items organized. I am constantly pulling those plastic bins out and returning them - over and over and over - daily for two years solid. Not once, EVER, has any cube fallen apart nor dented not fallen over. Nothing. I didn't use Gorilla glue or a glue gun to assemble them. I didn't reinforce them with anything. I just assembled, stacked, filled, and used. SIMPLE. Which is the point, right? I also feel confident about the materials that these are made of rather than the materials all that compressed particle board is made of.

Good for the price but need to use more of an adhesive
Easy to assemble and about what you can expect for the price. The sticky tape they put on it to hold it together is NOT enough. It kept toppling over with even a little bit of pressure. I then put it together with a stronger adhesive and now it works fine. It does also have holes to stacking more of this kind of storage cube (with a shelf in it) or the holes can be covered with a sticker. I did also get some basic storage cubes (no shelf) from this company to stack with it and those did not come with pegs and adhesive to stack them with. Not a huge deal since k di not need them to be too sturdy and already had a adhesive out but just FYI.

Good and Bad
I bought a pair of these as studio monitor stands and storage for the top of my workstation desk. There are pros and cons to this item. Pros: Lightweight and relatively sturdy Lifetime warranty Easy to assemble. Decent packaging As stated, these are easy to assemble with the peel and stick 3M adhesive strips already adhered to the areas for assembly. In order to get an even better connection I used some gorilla glue, which may be overkill, but it helped keep the wood dowels in place and provided extra adhesion. Cons; Lightweight, hollow core paper material doesn't stand up to impacts well Even though the flat packs were fairly well packaged it doesn't matter if something crushes a corner of the box. It will get to the materials inside and damage them (like I experienced with one of them). I think these will work for me for a while. They aren't the prettiest storage cubes as one can easily see the adhesive tape contrasting with the black outer surfaces. This may be completely different with the lighter boxes.

cheap but good
its literally a very cheap cardboard box that's been made to look pretty! so its weak, it comes with wood dowels and gluey strips when you assemble it, very easy although i recommend slapping some extra self bough glue on it, I use it as a monitor riser on my desk, so it doesn't even need to carry a lot off weight and it's doing exactly as advertised

Assembly needs major re-think
Though the 'eco-friendly' concept is well meaning (hence the 2 stars), these shelves need some real re-thinking as to how to keep them from falling apart. No matter what I did--taped, glued, screwed and nailed--they fell apart with the slightest touch or movement. The 'boards' themselves seem strong and are light, but they just wont stay together no matter what you do :( I hate to say it but until that problem is fixed they are NOT worth the money. I bought two and made the mistake of not putting them together right away and now I cannot return them :(

Great product, great customer service!
I was looking for a short bedside table piece that would fit snugly beside my bohemian-style bed (i.e. mattress on the floor). At first, I was kind of skeptical that this cube organizer was the one for me, especially because it was kind of pricey. But I liked the idea of an eco-friendly, health-conscious, natural wood-style organizer and decided to go ahead and order one since they offered free returns on Amazon. When it arrived, I was impressed with the design and quality, but the specific unit that was shipped to me was a bit damaged: it had a dented corner and some scratches on its panels, which is not what I was hoping for. Rest assured, I found a little pamphlet inside from the owner/founder of Way Basics whose name is Jimmy. On this pamphlet, Jimmy explicitly wrote that if there were any issues with the product whatsoever, that he wanted to be contacted! He provided both his email and phone number and said that an email, phone call, or text was always welcome! As soon as I emailed Jimmy, I heard from him in just a couple hours! Jimmy apologized for the damaged product and connected me with Marwa who is their Customer Care Superstar and she had a new unit shipped to me ASAP! They were both so friendly and I am very happy with my choice to buy this awesome product from them. As you can see in the pictures I've attached, it's the perfect height beside my bed, has plenty of storage for my books within, and has ample space above for a small 6"x6" lamp. I definitely recommend this product and company to others who are looking for a nice small organizer!

Bad quality & overpriced
Very poor quality. Basically feels like thick cardboard, not real wood. Glues together with sticky strips. Not sturdy at all. Shelves too small and narrow to be able to store anything at all. You can buy a 2x1 for same price and significantly better quality. Waste of money. For comparison the one next to it is a 3x2 and its 2 shelves are the height of 1 shelf on the better quality shelf

This item is made of cardboard
This could have been our fault but we did not realize this item is made of cardboard. For the price we wanted a sturdier product.

Works, but not really worth the money.
Wait for sales or something. This item is made from recycled paper and it mostly laminate on what feels like it should be some kind of corrugated cardboard. It's not wood. It's not worth $50. It is small and at most is worth around 30. There's a taller bookshelf around here for $38 in expresso at the time of writing.
