Great radio for all.
I was delighted to purchase this radio for global listening. It arrived the following day and was well-packaged. Inside the box is the radio, a comprehensive instruction manual and a USB Type-A cable. A plug is required for the cable but this is a standard Type-A plug compatible with devices such as phone chargers. The cable is also of a suitable length. The radio offers a range of features including FM/DAB/Internet Radio/Podcasts and Bluetooth. For FM or DAB the internet connection is not necessary but for Internet Radio/Podcasts it must be connected to a WiFi network which is straightforward to configure. The display is highly readable and can be dimmed. The radio produces a clear sound and provides numerous options for adjusting the equaliser. It also includes an alarm function that can be set to wake the user with a buzzer or a selected radio station. This radio is well-constructed, portable and stylish. After using it for three or four weeks, we decided to purchase an additional one for the kitchen as we are so pleased with it. A well-deserved five-star rating.

Slight UI niggles but overall a great buy, good on energy use
Very happy with it, wanted something for the desktop when working from home that also has Bluetooth for Teams calls (my webcam does the microphone). Really easy to set up internet radio, I used WPS and took seconds. Linking to my phone I was impressed that details of the YouTube video I was playing came up on the radio display. Sound quality is absolutely fine for what it is, a very compact radio, not unpleasant or tinny but obviously not really deep bass. NOTE ON POWER: The USB socket on the back says 5v 2.0A. I tested the current and at normal level it uses around a tenth this, rising to about 0.5A if you turn it up full and uncomfortably loud. So any 1A USB supply should be fine, and with current electricity prices it's good consumption is low. With the usb plug I use it is taking 0.9w on standby, 1.5w at a moderate level and around 3w turned up full. On battery, get decent NiMH rechargeables which could give up to 10 hours of use. It can drain a fair bit of current so alkaline not really suitable. Slight UI niggles, for example after listening to a podcast then going to DAB preset it still says Podcast at the top and the text information on the radio show isn't shown. Going to the menu with the 5 modes and reselecting DAB corrects this, hopefully a future update will rectify.

Decent enough radio, speakers could be better
Mine arrived today and I've been doing some playing about. Initial test conditions: - Garden with strong signal from local TX - Fast broadband connection with good garden wifi coverage Initial impressions: - It's a bit more "deaf" than my phone is for wifi. Had trouble connecting to a different AP on the other side of the house despite phone connecting OK. Once I'd moved closer it connected fine and updated the firmware. - Speakers are about as I expected from other reviews and the price. Not that great and the bass is a bit muddy to me. Obviously you can only tell any stereo separation close up. OK for casual listening though, e.g. kitchen/garden/shed etc. and they go loud enough without too much distortion. - The rest of the testing was done using a pair of Sony earbuds plugged in - the general sound quality was very good indeed through these. - FM - apart from initially the auto scanning being a bit quirky (missed a couple of stations despite them coming roaring in from the TX), I've no complaints. There is a scan setting for "strong stations only" which can be turned off. Very good reception and barely any hiss at all on the strongest stations. Tested in the house as well, more hiss but otherwise still perfectly acceptable. My Philips LED bulbs didn't seem to trouble it. Auto scanning OTOH was a different matter - it missed more stations despite reception being OK when manually tuned (lights on or off). - DAB - meh, it's DAB. I've not listened to DAB using headphones for years and I'd forgotten how awful 112kbps MP2 sounds. At the risk of reopening old debates, DAB really does sound worse than a well tuned FM station in most cases. Lower bitrate DAB+ AAC isn't much better. Anyway, it scanned and found all the stations fine. In the house reception was also fine. - Internet radio - pretty good! The higher-bitrate stations sounded fine. - UI - not too bad on the device, about what you'd expect from the limited controls. Responsive enough. The viewing angle of the display isn't great. Much more convenient to tune and set up the favourites via the app. - Battery life - not had enough time to test yet. Works fine on 1.2V NiMH rechargeable AAs though. Conclusion: Overall, glad I bought it really. Suits my casual listening purposes fine.

Bedside radio that does everything
The PURE ELAN CONNECT+ seems to be the only reasonably priced fully featured radio you can use as a bedside alarm clock. Reception on airborn radio is increasingly tricky, so internet radio, so long as a strong WiFi signal is available works very well. The sound is not audiophile quality, but access to world radio stations without interference and with 2 alarms, easy to use sleep function and plenty of user presets across all bands, this is great value. Only downside is the non-dimmable, but full colour screen which is a little bright for sleeping. DAB and FM both function well on strong stations, but this is not guaranteed inside buildings or at distance from transmitters. Bass and treble, audio streaming quality and many other functions can be adjusted, and there is direct access to podcasts. Double the price will often not get so many useful features.

Its Cheap and Sounds It
Ok - its a radio that is under £50 so you can't expect top fidelity sound which is just as well as you wont be getting it. My advice is to not buy this product and go for something a bit more expensive for the reasons set out below Some reviewers says its good enough for background in the garden or workshop. In the 70's perhaps but I'd strongly disagree by 2024 standards. It really needs to be better. It has the sort of sound quality I used to get out of my 1970/80's transistor radios. Oh and don't expect the instructions to help as regards setting it up. They don't. I did it by just looking at it and thinking it through So all in all not a product I see myself using very much and one I would be likely to replace in several weeks after tiring of the mushy, tinny sound. I have actioned a return as not fit fr purpose

Great Product 👍
What a great bit of kit. Didn't read the instructions but I didnt have any problems working it all out. Initial connection to wifi worked straight off. A few tweaks on the custom sound settings and it sounds good (bass, treble and loudness) Bluetooth connection works fine. Wifi connection works over quite a long distance. Searching for stations is a bit fiddly but once saved they're easy to access. FM and DAB reception worked fine. Only thing missing is USB or SD card input. I have this running through a large wifi at work. I can easily control it from the app on my phone. 5 stars.

Good functionality. Poor stand alone sound
Pros Cheap Good functionality. I bought it mainly for the internet radio. Good reception on FM and DAB with extended aerial. Cons As a standalone unit, the equaliser makes very little difference. The sound quality from the in-built speakers is poor. No depth. No bass. Very flat and cheap sounding. I have smaller BT speakers with a fuller sound. WiFi setup is fiddly with the need to scroll through characters due to screen size. Edit Just discovered that you can use Undok or Oktiv apps on phone as a remote control, which is brilliant. Didn’t see any mention of this in the description. If you connect it to an external speaker or amp, via the headphone socket, then the sound quality improves massively, which is what I have done. Same goes for the equaliser. The internal electronics are let down by the amplifier/power output. As a standalone unit, there are better options out there for under £80, such as the Mangokit SR20. Pretty sure it’s got almost identical kit, but a more powerful output, possibly better drivers, and cloth speaker covers. Edit The sound continues to impress via a standalone speaker in a bedroom. The lack of a remote in a bedroom is a pain for preset stations, let alone casual browsing, but that’s my bad. Decent for kitchen use. It can be controlled via phone apps. You can remotely set presets, and control volume and equaliser. IF you connect it to external speakers, or an old but gold amp, then the innards deliver way beyond its own speakers.

Now That's What I Call An Upgrade
Most of my listening is background through the Sonos speaker interface and, at times, on my old trusted Pure Tempus in the kitchen. I decided it was time to move on with the introduction of DAB+ and looked at Pure as a trusted innovative brand. The Elan Connect+ arrived today and I am delighted. Setting up was easy as pie and the playback just as tasty. Very good sound from such a small piece of kit and a fantastic range of new listening opportunities through the Internet connection - again, very easily and quickly set up - which is playing a cool Chet Baker radio station in the background as I write. Everything is much better than I expected with the exception of the muddled Quick Setup Guide. I found exprimenting with the controls so much easier. It can't be that bad as i have reached the point where I have my favourites stored as Presets and the Chet Baker find in just over 30 minutes from arrival. Price from Amazon and delivery are as excellent as ever. Highly recommended.
