Atlantic (Rise and Shine)

Beautifully written & illustrated. This book, told from the perspective of the ocean herself is genuinely touching.

One of the most beautiful books to read to children or even yourself! I have had a copy of this book for many years. I used it when teaching Kindergarten. So poetic and factual too! Now new Grandnephew Henry has a copy so we can share in the joy of the words and illustrations! Can't wait until Henry visits and we can enjoy the book together!

This book is THE BEST for teaching my 5th grade unit on oceanic landforms. The kids loved picking out all the great imagery and figurative language.

This book begins with a look at the ocean, but brings in related concepts such as tides, water cycles, and natural resources. The illustrations are beautiful and it provides a great bridge between science and art. I use several of Karas' books in my science classroom to show students how Earth's systems work together and how science topics are interdependent.

This book is a great example to help students understand writing from the perspective of an object! Using to teach I poetry!

Beautiful book.

This is an excellent children's book that can be used as a fantastic example of voice in writing. Not only does the book provide a unique presentation of facts about the Atlantic ocean, but it is told in the perspective of the ocean. In elementary writing classes (1-5) this is an excellent book to model voice.
