DMI Adjustable Folding Cane with Carrying Case

Plain and simple: You couldn't find a better value for the price. I had been using a rigid cane for several years, when I finally wore through the rubber foot. I decided that was the perfect motivation to go cane shopping. Unfortunatley, I hadn't even thought to check Amazon. I did some googling, and found a couple medical supply sites, and ordered several folding canes. Sadly, I was quoted a 2-week delivery time. Being worried about scarring my flooring with my old cane, I decided to jump on Amazon and see what I could find (and use my Amazon Prime membership to get it here quickly). I found this cane and figured for $12, I'm sure it will last the 2 weeks until the other canes arrive. When the other canes did arrive, I found this cane to be of the best quality (quite a feat, since some of the others were $50 canes). I've been so happy with this cane, that I ordered one for my grandfather, after hearing he was having a little trouble getting around. I'm 6'2", 250lbs. He's 5'4", 140lbs. And we both find this cane to be very comfortable. Considering our different sizes, I was blown away that we both like this cane. I've since ordered another of these canes that I keep in the car as a backup, just in case. A few notes: The "carrying case" is just cheap clear vinyl. If you need a carrying case that can take some abuse, you'll want to look into something else. Some folks mentioned that the cane is a bit "squirmish" when folded up, and that's true. With the elastic shock-cord running down the middle of it, it "wants" to be unfolded. It is both a blessing and a curse. On the plus side: to unfold the cane, all you have to do is let it unfold itself. On the negative side: it is a bit difficult to keep "calmed down" while folded up. However, I've found this to be true of all of the folding canes I've purchased, regardless of the brand name or quality-level. I recommend adding a nylon or Velcro strap to it when it's folded up. So, considering the price, you can't find a better value. UPDATE January 2 2012: I've been so happy with this cane, that I felt the need to give it more praise. I now own half a dozen of these canes. I keep one in all of my relatives cars (as a backup), and an additional one with an ice-spike tip for those slippery winter days. And to sweeten the deal, it seems the price has gone down a little since my original purchase. At this price, how can you afford not to keep a few of these around the house/car? With my large hands, the handle isn't the most comfortable I've sampled, but as a backup, it's more than sufficient. I strongly recommended product.

A great standby or travel cane. Lightweight, easy to unfold. Just what you would hope for.

Very nice cane, sturdy, easy to fold and unfold, great price. Gave it to a friend and he really likes it. He doesn't always need it but he likes it because he can carry it in his backpack when he goes for walks, in case his ankle starts bothering him.

I ordered this folding cane because sometimes I need one and it will be very useful to take with me when I travel. It was a very low price. When it arrived, however, the first time I put weight on the handle, the handle broke--not sure why--maybe a manufacturing defect, damage during shipping or something else. Most important was that when I contacted Amazon about the problem, they forwarded my problem to the shipper who immediately contacted me and had a replacement delivered in only 3 or 4 days. Looking at the replacement, I think the product is good and well worth the price. Not sure how strong the plastic handle is, but I have no doubt it will support any weight I will put on it assuming I use the cane properly by putting weight over the cane itself and not leveraging it at the outer end of the handle (which is not what I originally did). Should I want a 2nd folding cane, I would not hesitate to buy from this source. Any product can, from time to time, arrive with a defect, but what impresses me most is the integrity of this company to immediately correct the fault--very refreshing in today's mail order world.

I got this cane yesterday it is a great can, the carrying case is a different story. The case is just a plastic bag. which i mistook for as shipping packaging. it was simply a clear plastic bag wit a snap. That woulnt be altogether awful except that I had to extend it(cause I'm tall) not much just 1 hole I folded the cane slid it back into the carrying case it is now too big for the case. All of this is minor the cane itself is great light semingly durable. just dont buy this cane for the carrying case.

This is my first cane, and I honestly was not too thrilled with the idea at first. One of the qualities I was looking for in a cane is not-so-obviousness. Luckily, the black version of this cane is fairly inconspicuous. I can walk with better balance and less pain, and not worry that people are staring at it. This cane is sturdy, easy to figure out (I didn't need to read the directions in order to fold and unfold.) The "attractive carrying case" is just clear plastic, but it folds so small that it could fit into a messenger bag or large purse. The folding comes in handy when out to eat, at a meeting, etc. The handle fits great in my hand, making the whole thing more comfortable. all in all, I am quite happy with this purchase.

Cane works GREAT. HOWEVER, the carrying case is a rip-off. The (clear plastic) "carrying case" DOES NOT FIT over the cane: the handle sticks out, and the case cannot be buttoned to close. In fact, it arrived with the "case" unbuttoned. The "case" appears to be a means to hang the cane on a rack for display. My fault: the case was not displayed with the cane. My recommendation: unless you can see how the case actually fits over the cane, order the cane only and find a case elsewhere.
