Will this work with a beagleboard black? what type usb cable from laptop to device?

I have not used it with beagleboard black. i used MINI USB extension cable, to connect to laptop. it came with USB to TTL adopter.

This device doesn't appear to have a dtr lead. will this work with applications that expect it?
