Excellent
Similar to Stockan's thin oatcakes, but with a flavor that's just a little tiny bit darker somehow. They're a bit tender (less tender than shortbread), they're dry, and they're not strong flavored. All in all, they're a nice snack as is for those of us who don't go for sweets, and they're also an ideal base for high quality toppings like farm cheeses, exotic honeys, and homemade preserves. As a regular consumer of Scandinavian hardtack, I can attest to the fact that these are nothing like hardtack. Quite delicious. A July 2023 update: I got very tired of the oatcakes that one U.S. seller simply throws into unpadded envelopes, so I switched to a U.K. seller who packs them properly. They arrived only one day later and in much better shape.

Wholesome and grainy- but be aware that they are not sweet
High-quality, rich and bland. I expected them to be more cookie-like (e.g., like a tea biscuit) - but might pair well with sweet tea.

Taste is 5/5, shipping is 2/5
You can see from the photos how the oatcakes were just tossed in instead of packed correctly. This combined with Amazon's decision to literally ship this little box in a bigger box with a scissor jack meant every single one is broken to bits. Now they are just delicious crumbs.

Absolutely Delicious
The Beremeal Barley Oatcakes are a real treat. I have never had them and was surprised that something that seems as if it would be bland and boring is so delicious. I ate several with nothing on them and thoroughly enjoyed the flavor. But with dark orange marmalade, it makes an outstanding dessert. I don't know if I should order more because I ate too many at one sitting--they're that tempting.

Good but I prefer oatmeal oatcakes
They are hard to distinguish In blind testing from the oatmeal thin oatcakes, though the mouth feel is subtlety different (a little more pasty). Bere is an ancient barley grown In Orkney since time immemorial. I have eaten delicious bere bannocks (plain scones) in Orkney I bought these to try and I’m not convinced I would buy again when I can get Stockan’s wonderful thick and thin oatcakes in large quantities at a good price on Amazon. My family goes through a lot of oatcakes........ .

Reminds me of Scotland
Tasty, not to rich. Great with a soup or with nut butter.

Tasted like cardboard, not like the oatcakes that I ate in Scotland
Tasted like cardboard, what I imagine cardboard tastes like

Similar to hardtack
I had expected more of a shortbread texture. These are bland, very dry. Reminds me of Swedish hardtack. I’m sure they are loved by many, but not me.
