Surprisingly Good!!!
This little radio well exceeds all my expectations! I was looking for something small and compact for a kitchen radio. I considered a Bluetooth speaker, or a streaming speaker (such as a Sonos Play 1) but decided to go with the Tivoli Model One. I like the traditional radio look and the wood cabinet and almond colored face blends right in with my kitchen. The radio seems well crafted, the feel of the tuner is smooth, and it doesn’t drift. The best part is the sound! I wasn’t expecting such a robust sound from such a small device. It has crisp highs, smooth midrange, and an impressive low-end response. The Bluetooth feature is outstanding as well. I simply switched it to BT, and it appeared in my Bluetooth settings on my phone. I selected it and done! Simple as that. No fuss, no pairing procedure, just select and play. Some may think that it’s a bit expensive for a small table top radio, but it’s not your low end, plastic, squawking, bargain basement product. The Tivoli Model One is a well crafted, esthetically pleasing, nice sounding radio that you can certainly enjoy. Just get one!

Tivoli One BT Radio - Great Old Skool Design, Great Nu Skool Guts
Our new Tivoli Audio radio arrived, a welcome addition to our new kitchen. Tivoli makes this unit in a number of combinations of face and cabinet colors, and apparently my choice was not popular, because it took about a month for it to ship after I ordered it. But that's to be expected if you're dealing with Henry Kloss, the high fidelity pioneer who is the brains behind Tivoli audio products. You see, in the early days of hi-fi the notion of waiting for custom cabinetry for your audio components was as much a part of the mystique of high end products as what was in them. Fortunately the insides of the Tivoli One BT seem to live up to the notion that everything old is new again. I love electronics that are bone simple in design and excellent in everything else, and this unit doesn't disappoint. It's a monaural radio with a dial for tuning stations, a twist volume control, a small yellow light to aid tuning accuracy, a simple twist selector for AM, FM or auxiliary inputs - and that's it. What you do get, though, is one excellent little speaker with a ported cabinet to boost bass performance, an excellent tuner, smooth electronics and the option to use Bluetooth enabled devices as auxiliary inputs. The Bluetooth option is a pricey add-on, so either they're soaking technophiles or stuck with complicated options for producing a techie add-on that melds well with audiophile components. I'll assume the latter for now, but I do wonder. The user manual warns that pairing Bluetooth units may take some patience, and for my Nexus 7 tablet it did take a few minutes to get the pairing to work. However, my Galaxy Nexus phone paired in just a few seconds and neither unit required entering a pairing code. Once paired, the Bluetooth audio is certainly sweet, as is the FM sound. Included is an inobtrusive FM antenna that plugs into a coax cable connector, which I added on, though reception seemed good without it. Helpful hint: remember to throw the switch on the back of the unit when you install the external antenna, otherwise it won't boost the signal. In a kitchen filled with state of the art appliances that seem to have a lot to say to us, the Tivoli One BT is a welcome change of pace. You turn it on, it plays music - or podcasts. That's it. Perfect for my wonderful analog wife, and just right for me. You could spend lots less or lots more for a compact radio, but for the money the Tivoli One BT is a great value if the best of old skool and nu skool audio matters to you.

EXACTLY what we wanted and expected. Sound quality is "good," and that's all we wanted.
What my wife really wanted was "a little radio to listen to NPR in the kitchen." It does exactly that, it does it PERFECTLY, and I don't know of any other product that would do it as well. We considered a "smart speaker" but didn't like a) dependence on WiFi and internet, b) privacy concerns, or c) occasionally erratic interpretation of voice commands we've experienced with Siri etc. on other devices. This was our second try because originally neither of us wanted to pay that much money, so a few years ago I bought an offbrand radio for $40 at T. J. Maxx... and it was ugly, it was weird, it didn't feel like "quality," and you sometimes had to jiggle the DC-in power cord and a switch next to it to get it to work. And it finally broke. The Bluetooth is iffy, as most Bluetooth devices without touchscreen controls are. I mostly got it on a whim--it doesn't complicate things much, it just adds _one_ position to a selector switch. It happens that it does work with the Bluetooth audio transmitter I connected to our TV set, so it lets my wife do another thing she wanted--listen to the audio of the TV news when she is in the kitchen. We get good FM reception for the stations we want, and this radio is completely solid, picks them up easily, looks like it probably has AFC but in any case it doesn't drift. The sound quality is what you'd have described decades ago as "a good table radio with a nice clear tone" for both speech and music. It isn't anything for an audiophile. If you think what you want is a good, simple, high-quality table radio, this is it.

Stop waiting and get it now
OMG I love my TIVOLI Model One soooo much. I only got it in 2023! I have loved the look of them since I first saw them probably 20 years ago. I always wanted one but the price was a bit too much for me back then. I think they cost less now than they did then. The sound quality is fantastic. Bluetooth - great. Super easy. I do kinda wish it had a rechargeable battery so it could be wireless but as is - definitely 5 stars. Stop waiting and get it. It is really helping with Brandi Carlile addiction - since I have it at work and I can just connect my phone. Maybe I'll hardly ever use it - but I do love having the actual radio part too. I tested it and FM - came in loud and clear. So fantastic and gorgeous- everything I was hoping it would be.

Bluetooth May Not Be Good with Apple Devices
I love this little radio. Cherry/silver version matches my kitchen, and looks great. The sound is terrific for such a small radio. If I had only bought the regular (non-Bluetooth) version for about $110 less I would have given it 5+ stars. As some others have said, connecting Apple devices to the Bluetooth version can be frustrating. While Tivoli advertises easy "auto-connect" to up to eight Bluetooth devices, I immediately had problems with an iPhone 5 and an iPad Air, both running the latest iOS7.1. I could connect the iPhone 5 at first, and auto connect seemed to work once the pairing was established after a number of tries. Then I tried to connect an iPad Air and had lots of problems with pairing and connecting. Others here have correctly pointed out that one device has to be unpaired before another can be paired/connected, and that was confirmed in an email to Tivoli. After a while I could do neither with the iPad. That's not really "auto connecting." I contacted Tivoli again, and they arranged for a UPS round trip shipment for me to return mine. Apparently they do some kind of a software update to the radios (like mine) which need it. I just got mine back. Now the pairing seems to last with at least two devices, the pairing was easier, and I can connect both, but have to use their Bluetooth control in Settings to do it. That's not quite "auto connect," but it's not too bad either. Conclusions: I'm a huge fan of buying things like this through Amazon, but I think I might have received a more up-to-date version of this radio by buying directly from Tivoli. This time I think I got one (without up-to-date software) that may have been in stock at one of Amazon's suppliers for some time. The "auto connect" feature doesn't really work as promised, at least on Apple devices. And Tivoli should make that clear in their ads. Otherwise you may have to buy one and then be without it for about two weeks while returning it to Tivoli and they make it work as well as it can. I do give them credit for their making that easy to do. I really do like this little radio, but think if Tivoli is going to ask about $110 extra for their Bluetooth version, it ought to work better than it does.

This is one SWEET table radio
I wanted something simple but high quality materials, craftsmanship and that would be reliable and last a long long time. Enter the Tivoli Model One BT AM/FM tabletop radio. This has just three knobs; volume, selection and tuner. The bluetooth latched onto my iPod Touch 7 very quickly. FM reception on this is very good. AM is a different story. I live about 40 miles from Los Angeles and the AM reception, believe it or not, is worse with an external AM loop antenna!! I unplugged it and got the stronger AM's better but still, AM, unless you're right in close range to stations leaves a lot to be desired. That's why FM has taken over the airwaves. With the telescoping antenna on the Model One BT I'm getting a LOT of FMs in quite clearly. I've conquered the AM reception problem by simply installing an APP on my iPod Touch and streaming it to the Model One BT. It's like listening to AM stations with FM quality. I love this radio so much I bought another one for my second home. I got the Black cabinet/Black front and the Oak cabinet/Black front versions. The dial knob feels very precise and is tight. The amber light that goes on when a station is best "locked in" is very handy. I didn't need a clock radio (I have enough of those) and as far as digital display, I liked the retro look and operation of this, once again, thinking this radio will last many many years. The sound to me is a perfect balance of low/midrange/high. The Model One BT is built very well, is solid, great craftsman ship and high quality materials. For $199, this is a no-brainer. LOVE IT.
