2008 debut album from the Toronto-based duo, who have amassed a cult following through their uncompromising and intense delivery, a slew of limited edition singles, and shows packed solely by word of mouth. Their vinyl singles have sold out instantly, they have toured extensively in the UK, Europe and North America with artists such as Metric and the Klaxons, and remixed songs for Bloc Party and the Klaxons among others. Substantial support from Pitchfork and the rest of the blogsphere with over 10,000 MySpace plays a day. Crystal Castles are making everyone's 'Band to Watch' list for 2008. Review: the debut album of crystal castles - so first, im gonna get into the actual cd i got from here. the company that sold me the cd through desertcart had not mentioned to me that it was very damaged. i did contact the company through desertcart's customer service bot but they have not replied back to me. but that's not what this review is about. i would say this album is really good and what got me into crystal castles. i had never really listened to them much until a few months ago. one track off of this album that i love in particular is Black Panther. i could literally listen to this song for days, maybe even months (which i have done in the past). it's just that good! another track that i love is Knights. i love this song so much and the beat is just amazing. another song i love would be Courtship Dating. i had a period of binge listening to this song and is what made me listen to the entire album. these songs are all so amazing and are very different from their second album also titled Crystal Castles but with (II) at the end (to not confuse people lol). Review: Brilliant, refreshing, and on the edge - I'll confess at a first listen I was a bit disappointed with this album. A few cool on line samples drove me to buy the album, but even on 2-3 listens I thought the ablum was more instrumental than vocal, and not very melodic. It was probably the 4th listen that I realized there ARE vocals, they're just either buried in the mix, or heavily treated (vocoder, distortion, etc.), and the album actually is quite melodic - just more on a subtle level. It is very difficult these days to come up with anything new, and that's not always the most important thing with music anyway, but Crystal Castles bring a fresh and innovative sound and dare to take risks. The risks give this album a hard-edged indie feel that flirts with pop without selling out. If you like bands like Sneaker Pimps, The Faint or Miss Kittin & The Hacker you should check out this band for sure. Great album, I look forward to future releases by this band.

AMAZING
Crystal Castles are a great band this is there original raw sound so it's amazing to listen to. Especially Alice Practice since it was just a song Alice was literally Practicing on. They have great 8 bit sounds and great dance sounds. I recommend them 100%. there something different.

Captivating Album
This is such a good album. No need for lyrics when you have such a nice bass, and melody going! It's a shame they are not longer together as music partners because this is a very solid album.

Great intriguing danceable alt electronica
At first I bought this and didn't take to this album it was too much electronic noise, but I heard a track at a club, Crimewave, and fell in love with the great driving 80's electronica beats, weird synth sounds, and computer altered voices. I could listen to this one over and over again and not be bored. Some of the songs, I can't stand like Alice Practice, Xxzxcuzx Me, Love and Caring, and Through the Hosiery - way too much electronic noise for my taste. The other standouts on this album are Courtship Dating, Good Time, Vanished, Tell Me What to Swallow. The beginning of Courtship Dating sounds like it was sampled from a bad pop song at the beginning, but as soon as you hit 22 secs the lush layering of sounds, beats, electronic noises, and intriguing lyrics are incredibly catchy. I love the enigmatic lyrics - you can barely grasp what they're trying to say. Good Times is just a catchy loop of solid 80s inspired pop kinda Missing Persons sounding without the quirky female voice - can get a little annoying with the repetition if you don't like it. Vanished is spacey, catchy, and haunting - has hints of New Order in the refrain. Tell Me What to Swallow - bare, acoustic, dark, and enchanting - hints of a darker Kate Bush.

Next Gen Bitter Sweet Electronica ~ !!
In the 80's...Cure (old cure esp'ly), new order, depeche mode, kraftwerk.... Music that let you dance....lose yourself....as if there were no tomorrrow... I hesitated b/c the refs suggest experimental, video game noise....but that completely misses it... This music is full of passion...electronica and dance...but it's submerged in decadance, a bit of melancholy, and degradation (vocals, melodies in minor) that overlays a tremendous life force that bursts up and soars...wounded. Crystal Castles is now at the top of my list...

post punk culture> The video game sound beat
The transition from an era characterized by its violence and alienation to one close to the transformation of the precepts of an intransigent education, the future arrives today to lay a foundation that promises the disambiguation of youth. Each one can see themselves as the one who has the exact voice and pose, without blame, reconstructing his past over and over again reviewing litanies. I mean 8bit based loop, PCM and SID synths, the whole range of chiptune from my Commodore 64 to the Amiga, Family or Atari. I place myself even further back where the orchestras of bleeps, glitchs and bubbles that created the guidelines for the translation of sound to the universal are found. Now, certain techno music makes me remember the "good times" of progress demystified towards the interior of oneself.

Enthousiasmant duo
Les mélodies et arrangements des Crystal Castles tournent dans la tête et donnent le sourire. De l'electro gaie et originale qui chasse la déprime !
