As a 12-year veteran soccer mom, I can speak from experience in saying that the Joe Shade is the BEST sideline umbrella! Great on grass and turf, and even up in stadium stands because you can adjust the tripod base so it's narrow enough to fit between the bleachers (although I would usually have to hold onto it to keep it fully upright when in the stands--definitely worth it for the shade!). On the sideline it offered enough shade for both my husband and myself to sit under it with our beach chairs. Super easy to set up, break down and carry from field to field. Customer service is awesome, too! Great company. Highly recommend!

Well made and easy to use. Good for use on my porch when the afternoon sun is too strong. Weight needed on the stand if windy.

I ordered this sunshade for us to enjoy the fall soccer season here in FL and keep the sun off of us. It arrived in a very timely manner and in it's carry case. Once I took the sunshade out of the carry case as it comes in 2 pieces (the stand part and the umbrella part), I could not fit it back int the case! I was frustrated as you can imagine, and wrote immediately to Amazon to express my displeasure. It was a Friday evening and my phone rang with a number I did not recognize from IL. It was the President of JoeShade himself (Dave Shober) calling me to inquire/trouble shoot about my displeasure with the case that accompanied the shade. He listened to my complaint about the case and immediately told me that there had been issues with some of the cases being too small for the SunShades to fit into (without an absolute struggle) and that he was going to send me a new case to correct the problem. I was so impressed that he would call me on a Friday evening to rectify the situation. True to his word, a new case arrived in the mail a short time later, proper size and the SunShade fits perfectly in it, without a struggle. The Sunshade itself is exactly what we wanted. It is lightweight and easy to transport. As I stated above, it comes in two (2) pieces, the base and the umbrella. It is easy to assemble (even for 1 person). There are 3 anchors that come with it as well to anchor the umbrella to the ground to prevent it from tipping over in a windy day. You will want to use these as it does tip easily, even in a light wind. The umbrella can be angled to keep the sun off of you. The material that the umbrella is made of seems durable and is the same material that the case is made of. I like that it fits easily into the trunk or back of the car. For the money, this is a really good buy and you cannot beat the customer service (that Amazon) as well as JoeShades offers.

I bought this to provide shade while sitting at my granddaughter’s softball games. It’s very portable and easy to set up. The quality is good. The cover did get a little hole poked in it the first time I used it. I would take percussion when storing it or transporting it. It’s large enough to provide shade for two chairs side-by-side. I have also used it to set up in my back courtyard. It gets a little windy out there and it stays upright. I would recommend using a sandbag or something to weigh down the base if it is really windy. The umbrella material is a good quality and durable.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: The five stars remain … wish I could give more. The original unit sent to me was definitely defective. The replacement unit, sent to me by the owner of the company, is much better than the original unit. The replacement unit’s components are assembled tighter than the original unit. No parts loser than they need to be. The parts with movement do so smoothly. Nothing gets stuck. This shade is very easy to put together. The base legs practically place themselves. One need only tighten the knob. The umbrella component opens easily and is huge, providing ample shade. It took me just under one minute to put this shade together to how I wanted it. The shade material is sturdy and very effective. The sun, no matter how bright, does not get through. Storing the shade is easy. It takes up very little room in the trunk of my car, and it is ready for use whenever I need it. Parks without shade trees are no longer a problem for me. This shade is perfect. UPDATE: The owner called me back and agreed I received a defective unit. He is going to send a replacement one. I will leave this review at 1 star until the owner of Joe Shade calls me back and tells me how to fix the umbrella. It is made in China, which means the parts and assembly are inferior. The knob labeled "leg lock" doesn't really lock the legs. It doesn't tighten. It simply spins and spins and spins, rendering the legs unstable. The "twist lock" is supposed to hold the height of the umbrella into place. This "twist lock" is too tight and I need to get a Teamster to untwist it. Regardless, the "twist lock" does not lock the pole is place. To collapse the umbrella, one must bring a tool kit. There is a small, metal plate which, when pressed, collapses the umbrella. Thing is, there is a cheap, red plastic button which is supposed to press that metal plate, and this cheap plastic part doesn't line up with the plate it is supposed to press. One must slide a long screw driver into the assembly and press the metal plate. There is a small, white, plastic part labeled "quick release". This is where the two parts of the umbrella lock together. This is the only thing which works.

Sturdy, great quality and comes in handy. It's adjustable and portable. We use this at the bleachers when watching our kids' track and field events.

Update to my 2017 review: I have two of these now. Same one i purchased in 2017 and then another a couple years later. My husband wanted his own for his car. We use them all the time in the summer. The condition hasn’t changed. I just take care of them and they’ve stood up to all these years. It’s 2025 and they are still dependable for our family. That’s a long time for a product to last. Still 5 stars. I always said when these break we are going to buy new ones but they haven’t broken. I’m on here now looking to buy one for my daughter because she has kids now and her own house with a yard and zero shade. Guess what she’s getting from mom? :) ********** I purchased this umbrella almost 2 years ago now. I have taken it to many a soccer and baseball game, and have it in the car at all times now even when we are just going fishing or even to someone's house for a BBQ. It is that handy. It has worked to cover our coach of our team when it was raining (not raining heavily, but heavy enough to be getting the coach wet and the playbook wet...this joe shade stopped that) the coached loved it...since it can be expanded up for the standing position, he just kept under it when he could with the book and then ran out when the kids were back to batting and he was needed by the pen. We also belong to a pool club and they just recently added big umbrellas over some of the chairs...if you don't get one of those chairs though, you are SCREWED and are baking in the hot sun the entire time by the pool, which really is annoying. This gem has been our lifesaver. I take it with us EVERYTIME we go to the pool.... I never leave it at home. My husband and I never have to worry about beating someone out for a chair with shade anymore. And putting it in between two chairs keeps it pretty sturdy and it hasn't fallen over on us yet even with it just sitting on top of cement. Love that you can position it as the sun moves, plus it's easily movable. The ones at the pool club are on heavy stands that are hard to move around. This joe shade is absolutely awesome. Big enough to cover at least 2 people. Sometimes if my son shares a lounger with me, it covers all three of us at the pool. Everyone asks us where we got it every time we have it out. Be prepared to have people scoot up to you to try and "share your shade" when they see you came prepared and they didn't. After two years, my umbrella has a small tear in it and the bag strap did come off (I just used a safety pin to put it back on)...but the tear isn't big enough to interfere with the umbrella's purpose (yet). I plan on getting another of these when this one goes because I feel like we are getting our money's worth. Would I love it if it lasted 20 years? Of course...but the way things are made nowadays I don't have any false expectations. This thing has taken a beating over the time period I've had it. Thrown in the SUV with all kinds of sporting gear on top, etc and it's still going. I never leave home without it during the spring, summer or fall....now the winter, I don't really use it :)

My daughters have played softball travel ball for the past 10 summers in the hot California and Hawaii sun. I went through many umbrellas - from the beach umbrella where I used bungee cords to secure it to a fence or my chair, to my lawn chair with an attached shade, to the more recent, umbrellas with stands. I absolutely love my JoeShade that I purchased three seasons ago. Quick and easy set up and awesome sun protection. Last year my daughter was diagnosed with leukemia and because of her chemotherapy treatments her oncologist says she is even more susceptible to the ill effects of the sun. Which meant time to get another JoeShade since my old one went thru a lot of wear and tear and this season she will be sidelined. :( My second umbrella arrived and I happily took it to the park a month later. Long story, not as long, one weekend my umbrella would not collapse and I had no choice but to leave it at the park because the open umbrella would not fit in my car! Imagine my surprise when I emailed Dave at JoeShade and he sent me a new, inspected umbrella the very next business day. This gentleman, replied within the hour to my email and was so candid and sweet. Such a rare commodity in this fast paced business climate. I am from Hawaii and am always so pleased when I feel someone spreading the aloha on the mainland. Great product, but even greater customer support. Mahalo nui loa Dave! Note: a few comments mention the umbrella sometimes being unstable in the wind. Of course this would be true for all portable umbrellas with stands. But to completely void this ever being a problem, I put my wagon (which I have available to haul my chairs, cooler, food, etc) right over one of the stand legs, or I just put my chair over the stand leg. Works beautifully and I never have to worry about grabbing hold of my umbrella in wind gusts.

Absolutely love this. As a redhead with an allergy to the sun, this shade is 100% essential. I have been able to sit outside in 30+ weather and enjoy the day instead of hiding indoors. The "silver" on the inside really blocks outcthe heat and sun! Definitely reccomend it. Super easy to assemble amd lightweight. Only wish it had cupholders! Loved it so much we bought a second one!

Very useful and will probably purchase another one!

The pole leans quite a bit but it does what it’s suppose to and works great
