Excellent, but LOUD
Essentially, I am giving this product 5 stars. If you only have a single vent and you need to push out as much air as possible, this PRO-3.0 fan is likely the best on the market. However, it is REALLY LOUD!! Anyone who has experience with air handlers or air systems will know that anytime you try to push almost 3000 cubic feet per minute of air volume through a 17" hole, you are going to get noise. This noise is a result of fan motor speed, air velocity as it is pushed through a small space, turbelence from the fan blades and any other obstruction, etc. In my scenario, the fan motor and air noise created a loud mid-range humming/buzzing that just cut right through the ceiling. My bedroom and office are directly under the attic where the fan is mounted and the noise was so intrusive that I could not live with it. This is not the fault of the product because we are essentially fighting physics here. The PRO-3.0 product pushes an incredible amount of air. Outside, the wind noise is not extremely loud but it is loud enough to disturb neighbors in the evening/night. It sounds like the inside of a warehouse factory with machinery running. The way to reduce the noise output in this scenario is to increase the size of the hole for air transfer and also reduce the speed of the fan motor. This will reduce the air velocity since we are using a bigger hole, but it will not necessary reduce the amount of air being pushed out (CFM). This is exactly what I did here. Since I had 2 gable vents for output, I returned the RED FAN and purchased two BLUE FANS which ran at a much slower speed and allowed a larger hole (essentially 2 x 17" which essentially equates to a 24" hole). The noise level was night and day. The noise is SIGNIFICANTLY QUIETER and the system still pushes as much or more air -- and two BLUE FANS actually use less power than a single RED FAN. I did replace the 5uf motor run capacitor in these fans with a Cornell Dublier MPF 5uf oil filled motor run capacitor (part number 32FD3705A-F at $24). This actually resulted in the motor running smoother and just a bit quieter with less capacitor resonance humming. At night in my bed with the two fans running full speed, I can hear a very quiet low frequency tone from the motor noise and air noise. It is much like a comfortable white noise and barely noticeable after I got used to it being there. So essentially, the numbers come down to the following: RED FAN (PRO-3.0) - 2940 CFM (about 1700 CFM real world), 264 watts, 1700 RPM motor speed, 74 decibels at 3 feet 2 X BLUE FANS (PRO-2.0) = 3890 CFM (about 2000 CFM real world), 240 watts, 1000 RPM motor speed, 61 decibels at 3 feet GREEN FAN (ES-3.0) - I did take a brief look at this fan. Yes, the brushless DC motor is much more efficient and versital since it can drive at 3 speeds instead of 2. However, the power supply uses electrolytic capacitors to drive the motor. I would be concerned about long term reliability on a device that operates 15 hours a day for many years in a high heat and high stress environment. Electrolytic capacitors really do not do well in this environment and will dry up and fail sooner than you think. I think the conventional motors on the PRO versions which uses film-based run capacitors will be much more reliable and durable.

GREAT Fan for my Attic
I'm thrilled with my QuietCool Smart Attic Gable Fan! As someone who's always looking for ways to improve my home's comfort and energy efficiency, this little gadget has quickly become a favorite. Installation & Setup Breeze: One of the things I loved most about this fan was how easy it was to install. No need for an electrician or special tools – I had it up and running in under an hour. The clear instructions and helpful online resources made the process smooth and stress-free. Smart App Takes Control: The smart app is another major selling point. Setting it up on my phone took just a few minutes, and now I have complete control over the fan right from my fingertips. I can turn it on and off, adjust the speed, and even set schedules based on temperature and humidity levels. Real-Time Monitoring: Speaking of temperature and humidity, the app also displays real-time readings from built-in sensors. This is a fantastic feature that lets me keep an eye on my attic's climate and ensure the fan is operating efficiently. Performance that Impresses: But the true test of any attic fan is its performance, and the AFG SMT PRO-3.0 doesn't disappoint. It delivers powerful airflow that quickly cools down my attic on even the hottest days. My energy bills have already started to reflect the improved ventilation, and I'm confident I'll see even more savings over time. Overall, I highly recommend the QuietCool Smart Attic Gable Fan to anyone looking for an easy-to-install, effective, and energy-saving way to cool their attic. It's a worthwhile investment that will keep your home comfortable and your wallet happy. Pros: Easy installation Smart app control with temperature and humidity monitoring Powerful airflow Energy-efficient operation Durable construction Cons: Initial cost may be higher than some basic attic fans I would definitely give this fan a 5 out of 5 star rating.

Does everything as advertized
This red fan is worth its cost in the ac electric savings alone. My AC used to run constantly and not cycle on warmer days. It's a difference of 200 watts/hr vs. maybe 3,500/hr. As soon as I installed this fan, there was a noticeable 30-40 degree cooling in the attic. The AC started cycling more regularly and holding a lower temp which I attribute to this fan since a lot of our ducting runs through the attic. Be aware that the fan does move a lot of air on high speed and may be too loud for some folks. Consider where you install it, and not advisable near bedrooms. Also make sure there is adequate attic venting so it works optimally. The bluetooth pairing was simple to follow and figure out. I did that upon the initial install and testing, then unplugged the fan, ran the permanent wiring, and plugged it back in, and it communicated fine without needing to go into the attic to pair it again. The app is basic but useful to track the attic temp throughout the day. I wish it had more functions such as recording the peak temp during the day and recording hourly temps, and it would be nice to have an override function where the fan can be manually turned on or off at the touch of a button on the app. This can only be done by going into the presets and adjusting the temp or humidity at which the fan turns on. The cord and plug is about 15-20 feet long which is nice so it may be plugged into an accessible outlet. I mounted an outlet on the ceiling of my garage so I can unplug the fan for any reason without needing to get into the attic. The temp and humidity sensor and bluetooth pairing are all in the control box so that must stay in the attic which is a drawback of the design if for any reason the pairing gets lost and needs to be reestablished or if one gets a new phone presumably. That will require going into the attic.

Significant Cooling Improvement with Quietcool AFG SMT PRO-3.0 Smart Attic Fan
Let me paint a picture for you. It’s the middle of summer, and the heat is unbearable. Our garage feels like an oven, and the attic? A sauna. I was desperate for a solution and stumbled upon the Quietcool AFG SMT PRO-3.0 Smart Attic Fan. Skeptical it would make a difference, I decided to give it a shot. Boy, am I glad I did! Pros: • Effective Cooling: This fan is a game-changer. It makes going into the attic in the summer to grab something actually bearable. And the garage? It’s like night and day—significantly cooler. • Easy App Connection: Connecting the app to my phone was a breeze. Controlling the fan settings has never been so easy. • Quiet Operation: Even on high speed, the fan is barely audible unless you’re right under it and outside. The sound is not overpowering at all. • Improved AC Performance: Since installing the fan, my air conditioner has had no trouble maintaining the set point. In previous years, the AC struggled to keep up during the hot months. • Flexible Installation: The unit comes with cardboard trim to accommodate various vent sizes, making installation easier. • Appearance: The sleek design blends seamlessly with the existing vent, maintaining the aesthetic of the house. • Fit: The unit fit perfectly over the gable vent, thanks to the adjustable cardboard trim. • Power: This fan packs a punch with its impressive 2940 CFM, ensuring maximum ventilation. • Durability: Built to last, this fan feels robust and durable, ready to withstand the test of time. • Value for Money: Considering its performance and features, this fan offers great value for money. Cons: • Installation Requires Two People: Trust me on this—it’s difficult and potentially dangerous to hold and mount by yourself. A second pair of hands is essential. • Additional Supplies Needed: Be prepared with a roll of heavy-duty tape for the seams and around the fan to ensure everything is secure. • Outlet Required: You must have an outlet in your attic to run the fan. • Challenging Summer Installation: Installing this in the summer heat is tough. Plan accordingly. To give you some background, my house was built in 1993. I added blown-in insulation above the garage and in spots above our ranch, which likely helped the overall cooling. Overall, I am beyond satisfied with this purchase. If you’re looking to improve your home’s cooling efficiency, I highly recommend the Quietcool AFG SMT PRO-3.0 Smart Attic Fan. This fan has made a tremendous difference in our home, and I’m sure it will do the same for you!

First day review. Check for updates if interested.
I like to update my reviews with time. I will do so with this one. First impressions on day one, I am surprised of the noise when running on high speed. Low isn’t bad. But on high it sounds like there is a truck idling outside of my window. Just a constant hum. If I’m watching tv I can zone out the noise. But being new today it’s a little annoying. The fan is installed over our main living area. I prob wouldn’t hear it from my bedroom, but if so I’ll program it’s temps to not run then. Proof is in the pudding. I will update as time goes on. Day 4 I’m turning the high speed option off. High speed is 2800 cfm, is kind of loud, and somewhat annoying. Low speed is 2000 cfm and hardly noticeable. Seeing as I had no fan before, 2000 cfm is good enough for me. If it wasn’t for the smart app I would not have bought this fan. But being able to control it and change settings with out going into attic is worth the money. Still not sure on performance in general. I can’t imagine how running on high would save me anything on my power bill. I ran it for a couple days and the ac seemed to run just as much. It does for sure cool my attic temp 20-40 degrees. I think it will cool close to that on low as well. This fan combined with good insulation above ceiling and a radiant barrier on under side of roof is prob the most efficient way to cool a vented attic. This is just the cheapest easiest thing to try first. I guess I now have another fun app to add to my “home controls” folder. I will only update if there’s any reason to from here. 4-3-22 It’s now getting warm enough in Vegas for fan to start kicking on daily. I still only use it in low. High is ridiculously loud to me. Not just inside my house, but outside too. My neighbor can hear it easily inside his house 30’ away. I had to go up and add some isolator pads. Not the crappy rubber washers that pop up with “buy together”. Look up isolator pads for ac units, or washer/dryers. Putting those on help the low rumble sound I hear on low. The Bluetooth still works great, I’ve never had one single issue with it. Still not sure if it’s all really worth it. Update 3-9-23. Been an almost two years. Still going fine. Had to raise my 3 star rating since it’s been problem free for so long. But still wish it wasn’t so loud on high. Kind of wish I had 3 speeds to see how it sounded. Again, not sure it’s worth the energy it’s putting out.

Totally worth it!
Great product! We’ve had this unit installed for about a week and it has made a huge difference. Our house has a black roof and the attic can easily reach 130+ degrees on an 85 degree day. We’re well insulated but it doesn’t matter, at those temperatures we cook. On hot days our interior temperatures can reach 95 degrees. With the attic fan the house is running at least 10-15 degrees cooler. Victory! Install was easy and the smart control and Bluetooth app are working well. My only complaints: 1) the specs are thin, specifically about the power draw when the fan is running on high; 2) the fan is loud running on high. We don’t hear it in the house, but I’m glad I chose the gable aimed at the street over the one aimed at my neighbor’s bedroom. I can’t comment on operating cost yet, I’ll report back after a couple of power bills. Regardless, I’m confident that this is a cost-effective alternative to the portable AC unit we purchased last year. Update: We’ve had this unit installed for about a month and it remains brilliant. The operating costs are negligible, frankly we can’t detect any meaningful difference in our electric bill. And it’s effective! We used to suffer in summer, now the house is comfortable. Recommended!

Low Quality for the Price
The unit was fairly easy to install, but I was disappointed in the quality. The metal shroud around the fan and the mounting tabs are thin. The tabs were bent and the shroud was misshapen when it arrived, to the point that the blades wouldn’t spin when I first turned it on. After I bent the shroud back into shape and got the blades spinning, I realized the blades are not well balanced and the whole unit vibrates fairly violently on high, creating a lot of noise. You don’t really hear it on low, but on high it’s audible throughout the upstairs of the house. The fan is a good concept, but I’m disappointed in the quality, considering what I paid for it.

One Major Flaw ... No More!
The fan is quiet and moves a lot of air. It is well built. The Bluetooth connection and control app work well. I loved being able to simply plug it in and then set it up through the phone app. But, there seemed to be one major flaw I hadn't realized: custom settings were not saved when there was no power, either on the fan or the web via the app. By default, both the Smart Mode and Timer Mode are off. Thus, at first, when the power went off, the fan did not work until it was once again paired with the phone via Bluetooth and turned on with the app. I struggled this, testing the unit after I had installed it in the attic. The gable vent I used is very difficult to access, so, before I installed it, I installed the app, plugged the fan in, paired the fan and phone, set the presets and turned on the very handy "Smart Mode" so the fan would work when my desired temperature and/or humidity was reached. It never occurred to me that this information may not be stored. After install, I cut the power, and then the unit would not come on until I paired my phone again and went through the set-up process (including the serial number) and turned on Smart Mode. Ugh. I contacted QuietCool and had a very helpful and honest chat to ensure I wasn't missing something. The recommendation given to me was to get some Romex wire and lengthen the line from the fan to the Bluetooth hub so the hub reaches a more accessible place. However, I'm not sure if there was a small software glitch, or a delay in saving my settings, but even though my testing failed and I was concerned, months later the power went out and the fan came back on just fine. The settings had been saved, even though the app didn't appear to have remembered the settings. Did it just take some time for the settings to "set"? I haven't had any problems. My app still sometimes showed things not being set, but I have never had a problem. This morning, I noticed a firmware upgrade and installed it. My first impressions are that the phone app anomalies are fixed. Even better!

Well built but not indestructible.
Upon inspection one of the mounting tabs was bent and broken off and laying in the bottom of the box. The other tabs were bent and scratched as well as the housing and one of the fan blades was bent. This made the fan unusable. I was advised to return the fan which I have done. It looks like a well built product otherwise.
