Great alternative to your furniture
I've had two of these so far. The first one lasted 5 or 6 years and although it looked pretty beat up, it still stayed in one piece. We did get replacement scratch inserts in that time, and the ones for this scratcher seem to be a lot denser and last a lot longer than other ones we've bought. We bought a new cosmic alpine scratcher when we moved and that one is holding up fine after a year as well. You shouldn't expect the little toy inside the hole to last or stay attached though. That part isn't too durable. My cat actually uses this for two reasons: 1. When he feels like scratching something 2. When he's been bad and we scold him. It's actually kind of funny because we initially trained him to use the scratcher by telling him "No" and picking him up and placing him on it whenever he tried to scratch our furniture. I guess he took that as a cue to go over to it whenever he's done anything bad.

So good. Cats adore it.
This is a really great scratcher; I would say well worth the money. It held up for a year with one cat, and then an additional 4 months with two cats. I just bought a second one. My feline overlords LOVE it. My only quibble is that the sticky tape they give you to hold the pieces together is ridiculously weak. However, it is really not a big deal to grab some super glue or whatever and reinforce the thing. Overall, thumbs up, this is a winner!

Amazon didn't send what's pictured!
Please note this review is for a cat scratcher Amazon sent me, which is NOT the one in the picture. I really like the one in the picture because it's identical to the one my cats have had for years and that I need to replace. Amazon sent me a cat scratcher that arrives flat and needs to be inflated and put together! The base needs to be pushed open, and it isn't very sturdy. The top part with the scratcher needs to be attached to the base with double sided tape (which is already there on the base). There is NO hanging toy inside the hole, so I'm not sure why it even has a hole. The color is not blue but an orangey-yellow. I will not order this from Amazon ever again. I'd pay the same ($18+) or less buying it in a local pet store, and then at least I'd actually get what I paid for! The only thing I like about this scratcher is my cats like the catnip that came with it. But for $18, I expected a better cat scratcher, not just a small bag of catnip that my cats like!

Cats Like It & It's Refillable!
There were two reasons I settled on this scratching post, one is that it's very durable for something made entirely of cardboard. Other scratchers would come loose at the joints or topple over, not the Cosmic Alpine Scratcher, it's strong and solid. The other main reason I liked this scratcher is that it's refillable. I ordered other cardboard scratchers but some of them didn't have any refills and others had refills that didn't quite fit but this scracher has its own refills that are made by the company so you know they fit and you receive two in a bag so they're a good buy too. It also came with some high quality catnip that made my cats interested in the scratcher as soon as it was taken out of the box. The catnip comes with the refills too. So if you're interested in keeping your cats from scratching the furniture, the Cosmic Alpine Scratcher's a good place to start!

Poor Product!
I had a Cosmic Catnip Alpine Scratcher which lasted almost 15 years through more than 20 cats, so I was pleased to be able to find another one when our original finally gave up the ghost. The new one lasted less than 15 minutes. The scratcher consists of two pieces: a flat base which unfolds and becomes a wedge, and a tray to hold the scratching material, which is supposed to be held securely by three pieces of double-sided tape on the top of the wedge. The cardboard the base is made from is very thin and flimsy and immediately collapsed under the weight of my 3-lb cat, and the double-stick tape released the tray almost instantly, quickly being covered with cat hair and losing all its stickiness. We spent two hours reinforcing the base with sheets of cardboard and rubber cement and reattached the tray with fasteners, so it will work for us for a while, but I wouldn't recommend the product at all and will not purchase anything more from this brand.

Flimsy, doesn't hold together
It arrives in a flat box and you have to unfold the cardboard and fold in flaps to create the ramp and keep it in place. After setting it up, it was still very flimsy and collapsing in along the sides. It slides along the floor and flattens a bit when my cat tries to use it. The scratcher part on its own is fine, it's a good size and comes with a packet of catnip. I can probably salvage it by adding some tape along the folds to support the sides and placing something slightly heavy in the hole to weigh it down and keep it from sliding. But really this thing should have been no more than $10 for how cheaply made it is.

Solid scratching wedge
I purchased this as a Xmas present for our two cats. They love it! It came fully constructed (no trying to assemble corrugated cardboard!) and the catnip was certainly appreciated. The little toy in the base was a nice touch and different from their old cardboard scratcher so I wasn't sure they'd play with it but that seems to be one of their favorite new things. It would be even nicer if it was cheaper (wouldn't everything be?) because something made of cardboard can't be that expensive to construct or to ship, but it's worth it. It's a pretty generous amount of catnip so that's nice, too. All in all, it's pretty much exactly as described and it shipped quickly and without incident, even during the holiday season.

Lately all the new cardboard cat scratchers are produced differently- the cardboard insert is more dense and and the spaces in between each piece are much smaller. My cats wonโt touch those! This is the original cardboard cat scratching design that my cats are happy to use and I get to keep my furniture safe. Not to mention- the incline! None of these new fancy cat scratchers come on an incline, but without it, my cats arenโt as interested. Original design for the win!

I have two cats one is longer and larger than average at 3 feet tall when stretching. They never really seemed satisfied with other ones from stores this one seems to be really popular as they have nearly scratched to the point I need to switch it around in just over a week

Listen, cardboard scratching posts are generally speaking, pretty useless, overpriced and flimsy. I would 100% recommend the Sisal towers over this. Exceeeept in one situation and it just so happens I'm in that situation now. Cats tend to fall into two categories of scratchers: Vertical: Cats who scratch on tall things and pull at them with their claws. or Horizontal: Cats who while standing in place in sort of a 'lying down' position will scratch with front and sometimes back feet. Vertical scratching cats will just rarely use the cardboard scratchers and lie on them as beds instead, but if you have a horizontal scratching cat, often they will scratch only on the sofa and I've found cardboard scratchers to be perfect for this. The problem is my cat scratches horizontally on the cardboard one, but still loves stretching to get the couch while ignoring my sisal scratcher. For this situation, this angled cardboard scratcher is purrfect and I can already see her using it multiple times. All three of my cats also had a grand old time with the attached toy ball. The included Catnip is of great quality and cats really do love Cosmic Catnip. My only complaint would be as the scratcher is so light it tends to get moved around, but I plan on solving that problem with a velcro strip on the back and on the wall. Pros: - Works great for cats that like to scratch horizontally, but sometimes scratch vertically. - Comes with a baggie of cosmic catnip. - Crinkly toy amuses cats and can't be stolen from inside unlike other toys. Cons: - Cardboard is cheap, of course. - Cardboard flakes cause mess. - Light weight causes it to slide around a lot.

Too small, cat is not interested too small, can't stretch...

Bought this as an inexpensive toy for a cat we are babysitting. She really seems to enjoy scratching on it and lying on it. It is very light so it does move around but that doesn't seem to bother the cat at all
