No instructions but the tool is good.
Worked great but no instructions. My suggestion is before you remove the old timing belt 1. Rotate the engine to align the gears to the correct timing mark locations. 2. Remove the Covers on the cam gears. (Replacing the o-rings under the covers is suggested) 3. Loosen the bolts on this tool, then Align this tool into the Drivers side (USA left hand drive) cam gear bolts. 4. Lock down the tool by tightening the lock bolts. 5. Remove the belt and place the new one on the gears aligning them to the alignment marks as best as you can. 6. If the belt marks will not align to the gear marks. Which they won't. IMPORTANT: Do not rotate the gears the wrong way. Top cam clockwise and lower cam counter-clockwise only. 7. Hold the necessary gear bolt with a wrench while you loosen the lock bolt. Rotate the gear with the wrench to get the belt to align. 7. Lock down the tool again if necessary to finish the belt alignment. 8. Remove the tool. 9. Replace the o-rings on the cam covers and finish the job.

Poorly manufactured
I would refrain from purchasing this tool. The metal connection between the two Hex's that lock into the cams is too small. The hex is slightly too small and will pop out of the cams making the tool very finicky. You will find better success just trying to keep the loaded cam still than use this tool. I could be great just sufferes from a manufacturing flaw

For what you pay for it works
Magnetic hex that helps hold the tool onto the sprocket is cool and it does kinda work. The main issue I had is there a little too much slack and when you get a bit of tension to torque the sprockets it may fall. I had to have a buddy hold it in place for me so it kinda defeats the purpose of the tool but itโs cheap so overall not terrible.

Great idea, but why won't they machine these to actually fit?
I've seen complaints up and down in the review where these don't actually fit the 10mm factory cam hex bolt, and they are right. I had to get the angle grinder and basically grind off the polish on every side of every hex to get them to fit into the cam bolts. After that, they work great. Other advise is to not tighten them up until you have both the upper and lower bolts inserted, then tighten the bolt into the tool to hold them in place. If you don't tighten the bolt on the tool hard enough, the cam will still spin once the belt comes loose on the drivers (left) side. I bought two to also hold the passenger (right) side. I'd have to say, you really don't need to as they won't be under pressure if you already have the timing set to TDC. Though, it does help to have two when putting the belt back on to keep the cams from turning while you tinker with lining up all of the cams and crank pully.

Simple
Iโve been a technician for 7-8 years. Worked at Subaru dealership too. I canโt tell you how many times I watched people ask for a second hand setting up the timing belt on the DOHC turbo 2.5L EJ255 or the 257. I liked the zip tie on the wrench method. I never seen anyone using a tool like this. Wish I bought this sooner. Works just like it should. Even if you use this once a year itโs worth it.

I had no issues on a 2008 Subaru Outback XT Great tool!!!
perhaps there was a bad batch in the past. lots of reviews say they have issues with fitment. I experienced no issues on 2008 Subaru Outback XT great tool!!! Only complaint is that there is a sharp burr on the stamping. See picture. But quick fix with a file.

Fits, but has a weakness.
The hex on this sheared off in use, so did not work as intended. Initial fit up was fine

Good product! The hexagon was a little too small for my timing gears but still worked out and timed my motor!
