Scrap Bag Assortment Fabric Quilting Strips 1/2lb. by Moda

I read all the reviews and decided to take a chance. I bought two bags last month. One contained 37 pieces of Sweetwater’s “Red Barn Christmas” fabric. The pieces were all 32” long but varied quite a bit in width. The widest piece was 2.5” and the narrowest was 1.5” (which includes the selvage edges). This bag weighed 10.05 ounces. Several of the pieces will be very narrow when put into a quilt but I’m okay with that. The second bag contained 24 pieces of Civil war colored fabric - a mix of “Folktale” by Lella Boutique and “Prairie Dreams” by Kansas Troubles. Every piece was a complete width-of-fabric with selvages on the short ends and each piece was exactly 2.5” wide. This bag weighed 9.75 ounces. This bag was like getting a little more than half a jelly roll for the price of one-third of a jelly roll. So I took another chance and bought another bag, which arrived today. This bag contained 31 pieces of “Figs and Shirtings” by Fig Tree. Each piece was 32” long, with the narrowest piece being 2.5” and the widest 3.4” (including selvages). This bag weighed 11.5 ounces. Every bag is great! The fabric is high quality and it’s fun to have a chance to use new designers in my work. I think these grab bags are generally a very good value for those who are willing to take a bit of a risk or are of the adventurous type. I’ll definitely buy more.

I received a lovely coordinated collection from the "Autumn Reflections" collection in early November - enough time to sew up a few goodies for Thanksgiving! Most pieces were around 2.5" wide, a few were 3" and one was about 1.5". Each piece was a selvedge edge, so a little trimming was necessary, but I knew I was buying a bag of scraps so no complaints. Moda is high quality fabric, so a nice coordinated collection at this price is worth a few super-narrow pieces. Edited a few weeks later: I tried another bag and every single piece was 3" exactly, not a single selvedge piece, and though I don't know the name of the collections (because no selvedge markings!) they were beautiful, and happened to match with a Moda panel I just bought! So far I'm 2 for 2. Moda is really high-quality fabric for heirloom projects, which is why it costs more. It is opaque - even the cream-colored prints don't show what's underneath, the dyes and printing are very high quality, and the color schemes are beautiful.

I was not expecting quite so many strips. This is exactly as described. Great pieces nice fabric.

So excited as the colors compliment each other and all were 2.5 strips. I would buy again.

I’ve gotten two others of these in the past. They really are basically almost jelly rolls. I say “almost” because the width is anywhere from 1.5-3 inches. The first set I got was all 3 inch cuts plus bias. So I was able to make some decent little blocks. The second bag I got was mostly 2.5 inch cuts and that includes bias. The colors were not as nice and it was hard to use them due to the completely odd mix of fabric combined with the bias making these more like 2 inch strips. This most recent bag, whoever created … it’s all the same fabric line. So that’s a plus. But it’s 1-2.5 inch strips with bias so once the bias is cut off I’m working with a 1/2 inch strip or 2 inch. You can’t do anything with the 1/2 inches. So that’s 1/2 the bag left unusable. The 2 inch isn’t enough to complete a project with. So this third bag is a waste and honestly whoever decided to sell it should be ashamed of themselves. You can’t do anything with this small a sliver of fabric. I’m my opinion it does not count as a scrap. So looking to get the bag? It really is maybe more worth it, for the same price to just buy one designers scraps. I got curiouser and curiouser “scraps” from a seller and the cuts are all 1/8 a yard. Plenty to work with there for the same price. So unless you just love jelly rolls, pass on this. It’s always some version of a jelly roll.

This is a pack of about 15 strips around 30 inches long. the selvage are still on the strips.

I have ordered 3 of these scrap bags and I think it’s a great idea. I wish other manufacturers would offer the same type of product . I have read the reviews here of people disappointed with what they got and I am sorry they didn’t understand what they are buying. It’s a great deal if you know what to expect. You are getting scrap fabric of varying width, many with selvages, that amount to less than a full jelly roll (maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of a jelly roll), at half the price of a normal jelly roll. But here you don’t get to pick your fabric, and it might be not your style or color preference (I got two bags of Halloween fabric). These bags are great for people who like to use scraps for making “crumb quilt” blocks (see Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial), scrappy blocks, or collages. They would not be a great choice if you want to make a bunch of standard blocks because the widths vary on each strip. I used fabric from 2 of my bags to make 14 12.5” x 12.5” blocks for a guild exchange (photo). In order to do so, the strip widths are random and I had to sew similar fabric on to certain strips to make them wide enough. I think it’s kind of fun to see what you get and find ways to use them. 多少は 覚悟していましたが、全体の3分の１は布端の部分で使えません。 色も暗く地味な色ばかりで、見本とは違いすぎます。 こういう物は 二度と買ってはいけないと、勉強になりました。

I was very happy to see the strips were all 2.5 inch. Most had the fabric ends so that will need to be cut off but minor considering the fabric is great quality and very pretty. I was so pleasantly surprised and pleased that I ordered 3 more. It was fun getting a fabric surprise. Highly recommend!

Good value for money. Contents may vary. Very useable strips of fabric similar to a half jelly roll. Sizes may vary between 2” and 3” width by wof. This pack was all 2.5 x 29 lengths from Moda. Retailer is prompt with delivery.

I have opened the scrappy bag too find a delightful Moda make a wish and blow. There were 28 strips approx cut would be 2 1/2" strips x 32 1/4" in length.

Ja, man weiß hier nie, was man bekommt... Für mich ist das der extra Reitz, diese Beutel zu kaufen. Mal ist es weihnachtlich im Hochsommer, mal sind es nur einfarbige, mal sind es romantische Blumenmuster. All das habe ich schon gehabt. Nicht immer habe ich direkt eine Projekt vor Augen gehabt, was ich daraus mache. Doch eine passende Idee habe ich immer gefunden um diese Reste in einem passenden Projekt zu verarbeiten. Wer passende 2,5 inch strips erwartet, könnte enttäuscht werden...wer Wundertüten mag ist hier richtig.
