To reduce expenses and to help protect the environment, in early 2021 our household started taking a number of measures to cut our energy consumption. We use three other tools to help us understand our energy usage and provide us insights into steps we could take to save: a plug-in electricity usage monitor and a thermal imager (both discussed below), as well as our AcuRite weather station with two of these add-on sensors. Our AcuRite set-up allows us to monitor temperature and humidity in four places at once: outside, in our living room, in our crawlspace, and in our unfinished attic. Those four readings cycle on the AcuRite screen every couple of seconds, quickly giving us a full overview of things. Thanks to these readings, we have established a smarter, more energy-efficient way of ventilating our crawlspace and keeping humidity low in there.
