Amazing value for your money. Such a steal. The book is sturdy, beautiful, and educational. It's probably middle school level reading but my 4 yr old is obsessed with space and loves this book. It's the only thing he cared about Christmas morning. The color on the cover is rubbing off on the edges after only a few weeks and the gold on the pages is also showing some wear but we look at this book DAILY. So overall we're completely pleased and impressed with this purchase. Most of the photos are real rather than illustrations and have explanations for each one as well as facts about what is pictured. An index and glossary are found in the back of the book for easy studying.

I bought this book for my son aged 9 and he is totally hooked to this book. The picture quality is awesome and also the content. A great buy for kids I. Elementary and Middle school.

I bought this book as a gift. It has an amazing "wow" factor when you first hold it! The front cover and the gold sides are beautiful. The inside is also beautifully illustrated. The facts are easy and fun to read. There isn't a ton to overwhelm you on the page. Any outerspace lover will really enjoy this book!

As an amateur astronomer and former preschool teacher, I've thought a lot about how to teach children (and adults) about astronomy. I taught a successful astronomy unit for preschool kids in three different years. And I have a presentation for talking to older age groups. This book is takes the exact same approach that I do when teaching children or the general public, emphasizing all the same astronomical objects (the most representative and the most exciting), in the same order, but this book is more complete. This book also avoids common mistakes seen in children's astronomy book, such as wasting time and space on Greek mythology while introducing the constellations (what's that got to do with science?), or presenting a "photograph" of the Milky Way Galaxy as seen from hundreds of thousands of light years above (no such photograph exists). There is a beautiful picture for each object in a logical order without skipping anything important, moving from the sun to Earth and Moon and asteroids, the other planets and moons (especially moons of Jupiter and Saturn), to the Kyper belt and comets, to the Ort Cloud, to star clusters and globular clusters and nebula, to the Milky Way Galaxy as a whole (for which there is no picture of the whole thing), to dwarf galaxies near the Milky Way, to the local group of galaxies, to the local supercluster of galaxies and "the cosmic web" and "the cosmic glow" (and other things in between.) To show people these objects in this order, I used to have a stack of books with little sticky notes on different pages, always fumbling through the many books and losing my pages when I needed them. I can literally throw away all those books. I bought two of these books. One is for my 5-year-old grandchild (but I will just wait for him to get interested and let him take the book), and the other is for ME! This is not just a children's book, though it is that. It is a book for all ages. The author understands both astronomy and the attention span of children. Each object or topic gets two short paragraphs of explanation beside a full page picture or on a two-page spread.

I loved the pictures in this book. Made a very beautiful gift for someone interested in astronomy. Only complaint is there isn't many words per page. It's well suited for younger people rather than an adult. Although it is a fun read for anyone and the information is interesting and factual.

This is a quality book with beautiful illustrations. I am so impressed! My son-in-law received a telescope for Christmas and this book will be very informative for the whole family, including their 3 and 5 year old children to learn from. I will definitely be shopping for more DK books as gifts in the future.

What a treasure! This book is a real gem on your coffee table. Beautiful illustrations with well chosen explanations on the topics. One of the most beautiful books I have ever purchased. A Must Have!

The artwork on the cover was what grabbed my attention but when I received it in the mail, I really couldn’t believe how beautiful it was, right down to the gold trim on the paper. The content is perfect for my 6 year old with simple and interesting information that is easy to understand. Will be purchasing all related books to have as a collect, they’re gorgeous!
