I don't write that many reviews so this is an exception. I like this solution better than the $70 splitters where you set the wood in a cast iron cage. They seem nice but I am just trying to split firewood into kindling from time to time (hardwoods). A froe offers control and precision, and is a lot less expensive. I found using a deadblow rubber mallet to work better than a wooden mallet. I can go old school and use an ax but this is much easier.

Quality tool. No computer chips or hard drive, blue tooth needed.

I’m only giving it 4 stars instead of five because the screw needed to hold the handle in place doesn’t come with it, you must supply your own and you will need it.

Very weak. I bent it the first time I tried to use it. Also the socket isn't not tapered the handel is. I didn't want to put a screw in it so a could take it apart to carry. This is traditional. The handel kept bouncing out because of the taper. Save the money and buy a good hand forged one from etsy. Trying to load a pic but it won't let me.

blade needs some serious sharpening and device needs to be assembled.

I’ve used a few froes in my time. I like this one a lot. It’s solid and feels well made. I also like that it has a hole for a screw to keep the head in place. Previous froes I’ve used have had loose heads and the screw in this one fixes that. It’s taken a beating from me as I often use it on oak.

This item feels good, looks well made, and performs well. It comes sharp and ready to be used. A heafty tool with ease of handling.

Worst froe I’ve ever purchased and used in my life. Extremely dull blade and very soft metal in general. First tike I used it the supposed “sharp edge” flattened.

the metal bent, its too soft, so if you get one dont put to much leverage on it, just use it to split with a vertical force, not pry. hey for the money, its ok, but you're likely better going to lee valley and spending a bit more for a tool that will last a lifetime and keep your money in the western world.

I read a bunch of reviews on all the kindling/shingle froes I found before buying this one. Being low on money but still wanting to work on a few projects, I decided to buy cheap and risk disappointment rather than spend a bit more and end up with a middle-of-the-road tool that looked just as cheap to me. So far: 1. I have yet to put this puppy to work. I'll *try* to update this review once I take it for a spin. (I'll update this point accordingly if I do so). 2. I have no intention of using this tool on hardwood. I live in a softwood area, and this tool was purchased to make kindling from junk wood, and to process some spruce shingles for my outbuildings. 3. It appears that the maker has taken the advice from other reviews and included two screws instead of just one. I find this encouraging, and the blade feels pretty secure so far. 4. The edge on the blade is ugly. It's chipped and pitted, though the other surfaces seem smoothly machined and free from flaws. I'll try it on kindling before sharpening just for the heck of it, though I'll definitely give it a good sharpening before trying to split any shingles. So far, that's it.
