Math Word Problems Demystified 2/E

My 6th grader thinks she knows everything, but her math grades tell me she does not. I have researched a number of methods to help my 6th grader with solving word problems. This book has been the best tool for me to help her. She was not doing well with word problems, and I am using this book to both identify what she doesn't know and reinforce what she does know. Just as some people work crossword puzzles, I am having her work a minimum of 2 problems per day. Before I started using this book, she would not ask for help. She finally told me she did not know what she did not understand. Now she works until she gets stuck, then asks for help. I discovered that she was having trouble with multi-step problems, and would only work the first part. She had also gotten mixed up on what to do with decimal points, and was counting decimal places when she added and subtracted decimals. And long division, whell she did not want to line things up. It looked like a crooked stair case. She also does not like showing her work. It has been a messy nightmare for me. It would have been great if I had this book when school started.

If you want to learn to solve math word problems amd algebra word problems, this is the book to use.

Step by step directions for solving word problems, it helped my daughter to get over her word problem anxiety. It won’t teach a whole unit just a supplement for a student who understands the subject but needs help to figure out the word problems about that subject.

Very easy to learn and it takes you one step at a time. I will be through with this book in no time.

I love math but there were always some problems that escaped my understanding ... until now. This book answers so much (especially the pesky "a train leaves Los Angeles at nn and another leaves Philadelphia at nn ... when will they meet" problem. If you are confused by math, this is the book for you!

Great book. Helped my daughter understand how to solve word problems which has always mystified her.

I had hopes, but nobody has yet developed a magic bullet for organizing and solving word problems. I had hoped to use it for the prealgebra class I teach, but probably not.

Nothing new no more peoblem has been solved

I like it as an adult, but for a teenage ..may be ge will need a supervision or help But I loved it .
