Absolutely worth the high price
I don’t give a lot of 5-star reviews, but this is excellent. Sure, $80 is a lot to pay for a garment with such simple tailoring. In my experience the smoothness, softness and texture of this serape is second only to cashmere wool. The weaving looks flawless. What little stitching there is appears to be well-executed. Overall, it has the look and feel of clothing made to last for many years. The sizing is generous. Laid out flat like a blanket, mine measures about 72”x42”. Worn in the usual manner, the sides come down to about my elbows. The hood is a little more snug than an average hoodie jacket, but fits me just fine. For reference, I’m male, 5ft 9in, about 175lbs, average build and wear a size large hat. Some reviews mention that the fabric is not as thick as the reviewer was expecting. My example is about 1/16in thick. It’s about as thick as I expected, and feels “about right” when worn.

Soft and warm
OK, this is my first poncho but I love it!!! The alpaca wool is thin but tightly woven and soft. It came vacuum packed so lots of wrinkles for a while so I just hung it by itself and a couple months later the small wrinkles were entirely gone. We keep our heat low at night and I start working at my desk well before the heat kicks in so I just throw the poncho on and I'm cozy. The important part to me is that my arms are not restricted and it's quick and easy to take on and off. No snags, no unraveling, came in perfect condition.

Make Sure the Price is Acceptable for You...
Fits well, high-quality with decently durability. I would have loved some belt loops for the waist, getting annoyed at how it billows out whenever leaning over a sink or table etc. Heat retention is good in temps just below room temps and quite cozy but do not expect it to keep you warm with any significant wind chill involved. It is listed as hand wash only, but have washed using cold cycle a couple times (lost the oily llama smell in the process), air-dried it and had no ill effect. All in all, it is a quality product. I would give it 4.5 stars based on the price point paid (in the 60 dollar range), not the currently listed price point. If you really like this kind of thing, you likely won't be disappointed, but hard to recommend at the moment despite a good experience with mine.

It's warm
The main reason I bought this was because I go to Drs. and hospital 1 to 3 times per week and they always have the AC set to freezing. I wanted something that would keep me warm and yet have my arms free for blood drawing, IV's, blood pressure, etc. The first time I wore it the Dr."s office was for once set at a reasonable temp. The second time I had a chance to try it out. For me, it worked. It was warm, but not too hot.

The most perfectly designed piece of outerwear.
I arrived at an alpaca poncho via a circuitous route. Originally I was searching for the perfect beach towel. I found some really good one but as I had one wrapped around me after getting out of the pool recently, I kept having to hold it up. I couldn’t help thinking that it would be much more useful if it had a hole in the middle I could stick my head through. Naturally my next thought was to use a poncho as a beach towel, so I ordered this one. I tried it on when it arrived and couldn’t bring myself to take it off…for two days! I have come to the conclusion that it is far more than a superior beach towel, it is the perfectly designed article of outerwear. I’m not crazy, we have a large group of friends renting a beach house for a week-long getaway next week. I’ve become a poncho apologist. Now everyone on the trip has bought and is taking a poncho. $80ish may seem a little high, but this poncho is worth every bit of it. The first day I got it I wanted to take a nap. The bed was made and I didn’t want to mess it up by getting under the covers. No problem because I had a poncho—I used it as a light blanket. My girlfriend and I were watching a movie one night and it was a little chilly. No problem because I had a poncho—we snuggled up under it on the couch. My girlfriend and I are old so we like to wake up early and sit on the back patio drinking coffee and watching the birds right after the sun comes up. It was cool yesterday morning and my girlfriend was cold. No problem because I had a poncho—I put it on her and she couldn’t stop talking about how nice it felt and how appreciative she was of me for being so thoughtful. As we were leaving the community pool last week I was trying to gather all of our stuff to carry back to the truck. Had I been wearing a towel, I would have had to use one hand to hold it leaving me with only one hand to carry stuff and no hands to open the gate. No problem because I had a poncho—it serves the same purpose as a beach towel but is hands free. I love this poncho!

A very nice poncho.
I love the material, the hood is slightly too small, unless you're a small person. Overall I'm very happy with it's construction and quality! Short of wearing cashmere, it's the softest, most comfortable wool I've worn. FYI, I am 6' tall with a 42/44 chest and it fits perfectly (aside from the hood) Note, once you have the hood over your head, you can stretch it out a little by hand to make it less tight. I more prefer a caped type of hood, but this poncho isn't really worn with the hood anyway and it's nice having the hood hang behind your head...it's a very attractive poncho and given the material and workmanship, I believe it's a fair price. I did wear it in the woods and got caught up in a thorn bush...some of the threads pulled out into loops, however, if you're careful about tugging the loops back in, you can easily repair any 'loop' damage within 10 minutes of your time. I found that pressing my finger directly on the loop as if to press the loop through to the opposite side awhile gently tugging the fabric to the side did the trick...no more loops and it looks brand new again!

Nicely made, good colours and, although the material is fairly thin, it's warm. The only negative point is that it's vacuum packed, so is compressed into a plastic bag about the size of a ream of A4 paper, but only half as thick. Once you open it, it expands, but it really needs to be ironed. Mine had really bad creases, use a low heat and a piece of cloth. You can easily make the sides fasten together by sewing some wooden toggles on the inside; mine are about 400mm from the bottom and 90mm from the edge. I used a 100mm piece of deerskin with two holes. This makes it a bit more practical, as the front doesn't swing forward when you bend over something or the wind catches it. The toggles cost a couple of quid for 10 on Amazon. Otherwise, I'm really happy with this.
