Slice Fabrique is great for appliqué shapes
I've never reviewed an item before, but I really really like this machine, and I'm just not seeing many recent reviews on it. I make quilts and I love appliqué - just hate having to fuss around drawing shapes, then cutting, etc. I purchases the Accuquilt go baby and I like it especially when I need 100 or so of a shape that isn't easily cut with a rotary cutter and ruler. But one die can set you back 30.00 to 50.00 and the number of shapes for applique are limited. For appliqué I only need a few of a certain shape, but I want lots of different shapes! Slice fabrique uses design cards that have lots and lots of shapes and each shape can be sized up to 4 inches. The machine comes with one card, basic appliqué shapes, and additional cards can be bought for around 35.00. That means I can afford to have a library of shapes on hand. And the shapes are stored on sd cards , no need to store a mountain of dies. The four inch limit isn't an issue with me. That is actually a good size for an appliqué shape on a quilt, because most battings suggest that you quilt a distance of 2-4 inches, so I can quilt around the shape and still have enough quilting to hold the quilt together. This machine is simple to use, takes up little space in the sewing room, is cordless, and it works! I've experimented a lot with glue, fusible, web, etc. the fusible web sold for the slice fabrique does work well, but is stiffer than I like and makes hand-stitching through multiple layers really difficult. The solution? Misty fuse on the wrong side of the fabric, paper or tear-away stabilizer adhered to the misty-fuse side with sulky kk2000 repositional adhesive spray. At first I decided to follow directions like a good girl and use the special glue. But when I ordered three tubes of the stuff at 5.00 per tube, and all three tubes came out goopy and unusable, I decided to return that stuff and explore other possibilities. My solution was Elmer's washable glue. The blue gell stuff works and so does the white. Spread it thin, but thorough, and let it sit just a bit on the glass mat before pressing the fabric on. Clean surface with a damp paper towel and re-apply glue for each cut. You can afford it with Elmer's school glue. This machine is really simple, but you have to get two things right if you don't want to be frustrated. First, the fabric has to stick really well to the stabilizer. Second, the stabilized fabric has to stick really well to glass mat. Conquer these two items, and you'll be successful. The hands free kit is useful, but I still use a small (5 inch) piece of fabric for each cut. It is easier to deal with glue and fusible in smaller pieces, in my opinion. I have the 12 inch hands free mat, and use the extra space to set the glue sponge, spatula, etc. Buy extra blades! Love, love, love this little machine. Can't wait for more design cards, etc. Or make this thing really fantastic by letting me create my own shapes on the computer, then save them to the design card!

a Bit frustrating
It was pretty cool to use in the beginning. But after a while i realized i was going through blades fast, and then the pieces were not cutting out right... sometimes the blade would push the fabric around. I started out using slice bonding stuff... then used heat n bond... I just got tired of struggling. I also didnt like that i was wasting so many pieces of fabric. If i had the money i would be tempted to get the accuquilt go.... its all a great attempt, i just didn't have the best luck with it. when it did cut shapes it did well. my favorite was the snowflakes.

The slice fabrique works great!
The slice work great on both fabric and felt. I recommend that you either get the slice fusible or use wonder under with paper on it. Just make sure it is ironed really well. The design cards are great, can't wait till they get more. I recommend the spray adhesive rather than the brush on. I just put latex gloves and go out on the porch to spray it. It cleans off the glass with windex cleaner. My friend and I have already cut several hundred designs with no problem. It stays charged up for quite awhile, and if it does run low you can always plug it in and use it. blades last quite awhile

Great machine, little instructions
Great machine, it makes cutting so ease... But it comes with so little instructions, I had to take time and figure out how much glue it takes to make it right. If you buy it, be patient and buy more fusible web.

Slice Machine
This was a good price and has been useful, but it takes some getting used to. You need a stead hand and some skill in setting up what you want.
