Tending Brigid's Flame: Awaken to the Celtic Goddess of Hearth, Temple, and Forge

Recently I treated myself to a new book, Tending Brigid’s Flame. It is full of lore and stories of Brigid, as well as meditations and devotions. It is a lovely book, by priestess Lunaea Weatherstone, and it brought me back to my spiritual center, helping me realize that I perform many small devotions in my day, and these too honor Brigid. For an example, my first act every single morning is to light the hearth candle. When I retire at night, I extinguish it. It is my job in the household. And thanks to the book’s chapter entitled “Brigid and the Power of Words” I am reminded that writing is another act of devotion, whether musing in my journal, writing my family story, or even writing this review. Brigid of the poem, Brigid of the flame, Brigid of the forge: she is everywhere, making the mundane sacred. It is especially nice to have bought this book at this time of year; Lunaea writes: “Brigid in springtime is the life force embodied. She is midwife to the world, drawing it forth from winter’s dark enclosure into the light.” This is a delightful book, very well written, and covers many aspects of Brigid I had not considered before.

I am so happy I took the plunge and finally purchased this book. The author does an incredible job of providing so much insight on Brigid, her many aspects, and celtic lore. The book was an easy and delightful read. It is a multi-faceted and believable approach giving the reader the opportunity of making their own adaptable choices. I have been fascinated with Brigid for many years now, hearing her calling, even though I am of Italian decent. I had no understanding of how to connect with this beautful triple goddess. This book has been a bible for me. Lunaea, gives so much insight on how to connect with Her in such beautiful ways that I have never thought of with unique prayer, devotions, etc. It is a beautiful book and the author's concepts and sincere ways of connecting cannot be compared to any other I have read. This has felt to be a trustworthy and honest source. This book will forever have a place in my library and heart.

I just finished reading this ... I loved this book! I very recently came into the knowledge of Brigid's presence within my life. This book has been a great guide for me as I start on my path with her, though I know she had been beside me for much longer than I was aware of her presence. This is a great book for anyone wanting to deepen their walk with her or just get to know her better. Lunaea writes in a style that is very easy and enjoyable to read. She covers Brigid in her many forms, from goddess to saint, and gives many ways to connect with Brigid in a daily basis. This book has been an incredible one for me at this point in my life. I plan to read it again soon so I can start to strengthen my connection with Brigid even more. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to strengthen their own connection to this incredible goddess!

I had a bit of a surprise when Brigid suddenly popped up in my life as if saying, "Hi, were friends now!" When I realized she wanted a relationship with me, I decided to start reading up more on her. I knew some, but not much. After all, she's not the type of goddess I'd have expected showing up in my world. My primary goddesses are The Morrigan and Freyja. Add in the Christian association Brigid has and I just never would've thought it would come to this, but here we are. (I'm still really put off by the Christian association and any apologetics for the actions of the Church and its agents whether or not they honor Brigid in any form.) This is the first book about Brigid I've read. I think it's actually very good, especially compared to other books about deities I've read. My opinion of the information provided in this book might change as I learn more, but at the moment, I did very much enjoy the book. The author does mention The Morrigan in this book a time or two. While her suggestion that Brigid may be The Morrigan's daughter feels right to me given the evidence she provided, I'm not aware of anywhere in the lore that it says this, so that's fully UPG. I agree with it, but it's UPG nonetheless. The author also made an error in saying The Morrigan is a sex goddess. She is not. She is mentioned as having intercourse with her husband The Dagda in the lore, but that does not make her a sex goddess. So a star got removed from the rating for that one. That's right! I liked the book enough that, if it hadn't been for that goof, I would've given it 5 stars. That's RARE out of me! So, anyway, if you're interested in Brigid, I think this is a good book to get. It could've been better, yes, but it's well written and easy to read and the information seems pretty solid except that one goof, as far as I can tell. I recommend this one!

In this book the author demonstrates once again that one can offer a wealth of collected wisdom without being weighty or dry. Tending Brigid's Flame is both deeply tender and light-hearted; a perfect read for someone intent on creating their own practice or just learning more about this multi-faceted Saint and Goddess. While many authors tend to be overly prescriptive for my taste, Lunaea offers gentle guidance through detailed rituals in a way that encourages each practitioner to make the ritual her (or his) own. I am reminded of the "cool auntie" I never had; the one who does things in her own magical way and invites you to try a bit of this or that as it calls to you, with words of warning only as needed, and always encouragement to savor the experience of everyday magical living. Much like Brigid herself, the book is both a refreshing drink of clear, cool water to soothe the soul and an energizing, strength-building forge at which to hone one's magical intentions. Thank you, Lunaea, Priestess of Brigid!

A gem and full of wonder! I love this book on so many levels, the first and foremost being the immediate sense of love, devotion and wonder I can clearly feel emanating from the creatrix, Lunaea Weatherstone. So touched by her devotion to her Matrona that it rekindled my own devotion to the Divine Feminine, the Goddess in all Her many names, shapes and forms. This book is easy to read, a treasure, really, in that it provides such a rich tapestry of lore and practical inspirations for one's own spiritual practice, whether new to Goddess Spirituality or a long-time sojourner upon the path. Easy to read, with the gentle voice of the author ringing true throughout, I highly recommend this delight-filled treatise, and will continue to tend my own Spiritual Flame with renewed inspiration.

This is a beautiful and inspiring book by a devoted priestess of Brigid. The book covers what history is available about Brigid, both as goddess and saint, then moves into sections detailing how to welcome and honor Brigid in your life through the home, through devotion, and through creativity, writing, and healing. It is full of ideas of ways to honor Brigid as a regular part of each day, to live in a mindful, sacred, and devoted way through all the ordinary messiness of our lives. My favorite parts of the book are the many beautiful prayers and invocations to Brigid sprinkled throughout--so many to choose from that you could use with the prayer beads that she also provides instructions for you to make. I would recommend this book even for people who are not devotees of Brigid, simply because there are so many ideas for living a life of devotion that could inspire you in your relationships with other goddesses. However, it would be hard to read this book and not at least want to get to know Brigid a little!

Excellent book for both background information and hands on ideas concerning all aspects on Bidgid and her Flame.

I'm probably about one fifth through this book and I honestly cannot put it down. It's completely packed with so many stories, facts, history, recipes, recommendations, and suggestions for inviting and making Brigid part of your everyday life. Brilliant.
