The Great Outdoors: When an unannounced, uninvited and unwelcome family of fun-loving misfits converge upon a lakeside resort to join their relatives for a summer of relaxation, the result is anything but restful in this raucous comedy starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. Should be mandatory viewing
This two for one movie is the best combo. I bought this for my dad for christmas because we used to watch them together when I was young. Classic John Candy in two of his top movies. The 80s comedy is perfect. Great gamily movies.

Classic John Candy films! Another big comedian that left us too soon. We will always think fondly of John Candy and his repertoire. Thanks for the laughs John.

Pretty good
It's a really bare bones DVD, featuring two John Hughes comedies featuring the late, great John Candy in starring roles. In The Great Outdoors, Candy plays Chet, a dad and husband just trying show his family the fun of getting out in nature for a few days, and living "rough" in a two-story cabin on a lake. Then his flashy brother-in-law, played by Ackroyd has to show up and try to always one-up Chet from dinner to boating. Chet's older son has a little summer romance that doesn't contribute anything to the story, and apparently, some other scenes were left out that could have made this one a little better, but the ending is pretty good. Uncle Buck is the classic story of a family struck with adversity coming together, when his sister-in-law's father is in the hospital, Buck Russell steps up to watch his nephew and nieces. The sister-in-law has kept Buck away from them for years, as he doesn't bother getting a job, drinks, smokes, and spends his nights bowling and betting on the ponies. But Buck's working-class charm and common sense is just what the family needs to help his moody teenage niece reconnect with her family, and help the younger kids shine. This one features a young Macaulay Culkin in the part that got him the even more successful part of Kevin in Home Alone. Uncle Buck led to a short-lived sitcom adaptation that didn't quite capture the flavor of the film. The inner struggles of Buck to be the uncle and the man he's never had to be brings him to a crossroads that make him all the better for it. The two-feature disc is one-sided, but features only the films with captions and alternate languages, and the trailers for The Great Outdoors.
