Just Shy of Greatness
Friggin' fantastic knife. Irresistible to flick open for no valid reason whatsoever. The clip is a little funky, but once you get used to it no worries. Worst part is knowing they make a kinematic axe now, and you're gonna have to ask yourself why you didn't buy that instead...

Easily carried and hidden, this will be a deadly surprise, if needed...
Superb surprise for those seeking to dominate those appearing weak, unarmed, and helpless... Either as a punch, or having the option of "slice, dice, Julienne fry, Ginzu." For those of us that are disabled, the CRKT Provoke, especially with the VEFF serrations, is capable of doing extreme damage to those that would harm us... Not a primary weapon, but rather, a weapon of near last resort... Quality of manufacture is CRKT's place in the provision of quality blades, for very reasonably prices. I've had lots of CRKT blades, and the Provoke with VEFF serrations is now amongst the favorites of all my blades. Over seventy-one years, my blade needs have evolved... The Provoke now meets the majority of those needs. It remains hidden until needed. It is swift, surprising, and will be deadly. What more can be said, when a blade is truly needed? I give this surprising little blade Five Stars out of Five. Truth be told, if needed, it may well be worth more than it's weight in gold... I heartily recommend this blade to anyone needs a silent, dependable Ace in the Hole...

One of the nicest knives I own.
This is a well-designed and crafted tool that you can depend on. Everything about it feels very nice and slick, and you gotta love the ingenious mechanical design. It enables you to quickly grab and deploy the blade in the primary karambit defensive grip, with the index finger in the ring, pinky by the blade and the claw pointing up. This is accomplished without sacrificing the ergonomics, as this knife feels very nice to grip and wield. It's also fun to just practice/play with. I really like the low profile pocket clip too. The D2 tool steel blade is very sharp, should hold its edge very well and be tough to break. The only thing I can pick on is that the knife that I received initially didn't deploy its blade too smoothly or confidently. However, it was just bone dry. After I lubricated the pivot joints with some nice knife lube, everything became smooth as butter and satisfying to deploy. Anyhow, this is definitely one of the neatest and nicest quality knives that I've ever messed with and I heartily recommend adding it to your collection.

Great knife, excellent customer service.
Knife arrived earlier than expected. At first I had, what I thought was an issue with the purchase. I contacted CRKT to voice my concern. They were very responsive and professional and resolved the matter quickly. The knife is excellent and CRKT quality.

Wicked good
First - I am an Emerson snob, and have been debating buying one of his Karambits for a few years now...but I hate, hate, hate that "wave" feature, which I was fortunate to not have forced on me for the first few I bought. I never thought I would buy an EDC knife that wasn't an Emerson, but someone told me about the Caswell-designed CRKT Provoke. I did some checking on it, and BOOM, ordered within minutes. Second - the CRKT Provoke. This thing is everything it's advertised to be. It is a self-defense tool first and foremost. The blade is extremely sharp, and deploying it will likely cause you to "need to smoke a cigarette afterwards" (as one online reviewer noted)...it's that good. With a little practice (as in 20-30 reps per hand), you'll have this thing snapping to its "I mean business zone" with alacrity, and you won't want to carry anything else as a defensive bladed tool. Yes, it's wide. Yes, it's heavier than most "pocket" knives, but that's not what this thing is about. It's about safety and lethality in one package. You'll get used to the 6.1oz weight in a day. You can withdraw from your pocket (or other primary carry position) with it in its non-lethal tool mode and use it for pressure-point or punching techniques; then change instantaneously to "Mr. Nasty" in a split second. I will likely purchase at least one more of the colored versions (first one I purchased is the black TiN non-serrated version). That will be a first in 40 years of buying combat folders for me. That's how much I like this thing. Razor sharp, flawless function, masterful execution. It's exactly what it says it is. If you want the best non-firearm pocket defense tool, I highly recommend this one. About the only thing I would wish for is a left-hand carry version, so I can draw my firearm with my right hand, and deploy the Provoke with my support hand. It's not particularly well-suited for left-hand carry unless you're wearing LE gear and have a place to clip it to, or if you're willing to give up some deployment speed and carry it blade-side up in your left front pocket...that minor "aside", whenever I go out, it's in my right front pocket, deep carry (practically invisible), and deploys itself upon drawing from my pocket. BUY THIS. You won't be disappointed.

Wicked cool knive. Very unique
Not sure how practical it is, as it is heavy and bulky. It is a very solid well build knife, and what an amazing design. This is my second Karambit knife. The other is a Spyderco, with I love. It is a very fast deployment, one you get used to it. but unlocking the blade is a two handed operation. The locking mechanism seems extremely solid, with no play, but it is a bit awkward and takes some getting used to. Just like the rest of the knife. It too is very unique. Since it is so bulky, the, again, very unique pants clip isn't real practical. I know that CKRT came out with a case for it, but a friend purchased one and was extremely unhappy with it and sent it back. But all things being equal, I love the knife and it's a great addition to my collection. CAUTION: The tip of the blade is always exposed and I once pricked myself on the tip (but ONLY ONCE). It was quite the surprise. Never had a knife with the tip exposed like that. Just be aware.

Compliment Heaven
It holds in your hand perfectly, and the pullout is spectacular. You don’t have to fight the knife, just a slight push, and it comes out. Every time I use it, someone compliments, the knife asking where I got it and everything. Quality is perfect. Feels like a true perfect knife. Super easy to flip and when you first get it, it’s super sharp as well. I love fidgeting with it and I never really get fatigue on my finger from flipping it around.

Unique Morphing Karambit
I have a few Karambit knives: Fox 479 Carbon Fiber Karambit, Emerson Knives Super Karambit, Masalong Pterodactyl and this knife. The advantage of a fixed blade is the speed of having the blade ready to go. However the major advantage of a folding Karambit is the ability to use it for submission maneuvers, as well as the obvious. In the closed position, this can serve as an impact weapon such as a Kubotan. There are a few methods of deploying the knife after some experiments with it, for me: 1) Pushing down in the blade mechanism opens it as a user draws it 2) Strongly executing a chopping motion in the ice pick method 3) Drawing from the holster in the backwards motion, which is the opposite of drawing an Emerson Wave Karambit. There are four Pivots/joints that make this knife morph from one form to another. In the folded position the user is safe from a cut. It is easier to do a two handed folding of the knife. However I have figured a way to close this one handed. I hold it blade up, and using my thumb, I unlock the mechanism to free the lock. While letting gravity do the work, the blade will start to fold and I guide the mechanism the rest of the way. It takes practice. The grip is aluminum and the blade is a flat black D2 blade. The whole blade and handle are coated with a black titanium component of paint that is matte finished. The belt clip is not reversible from what I can tell. Pressing on the end of the clip the hook opens enough to mount it into a pocket. Action, so far, has been reliable and smooth. This is a unusual and unique design. Update After 24 hours of testing, the elbow joint locked up. Since I bought it used, I didn’t try to get warranty work. I ordered another one again. They have a lifetime warranty under the original owner.

CRKT 4040
