Monoprice SSVC-6.1 Single Input 6-Channel Speaker Selector - With Volume Control, Black

I replaced an older 6 zone Atlas speaker distributor that was acting up with this one at a restaurant a friend of mine owns. This was very easy to hook up since the connectors for each zone along with the feed from the amplifier are removable. So you hook up all the wires to the connector blocks, then plug the blocks into the back of the unit. I used a sharpie to number each connector block before making the connections to make sure I did not mix any of the zones up. It works perfectly with their new Yamaha 100 watt receiver. Note that this unit only accepts one amplified source, which is all the restaurant needed. The build quality seems to be quite high, which is what I have come to expect from Monoprice.

In typical Monoprice fashion...good products at a good price. I only have two zones connected for now but cycled them through all 6 connectors and they all worked as expected. I really like the automatic impedance matching - so many other brands require you to change jumper settings as you connect more speaker pairs. While it would be nice if the volume controls were continuous, the 12 steps on these volume knobs give plenty of adjustment as long as you still have separate volume control for the signal coming in to the selector. One thing to note - the product dimensions are incorrect...it is NOT 19" wide! I even contacted Monoprice directly and it's wrong in THEIR database (the support agent sent me a screenshot). It sounded so improbable, I decided to take the gamble on their specs being wrong and I'm glad I did. The actual dimensions are: 16 7/8" wide, 10"d (including knobs on the front and connectors in the rear), ~2 3/8" high (including the feet). I've submitted the dimensions of the unit I received to both Amazon and Monoprice so hopefully they'll update their systems soon.

Shipping was fast 2 days. I have speakers in the ceiling in 6 rooms. I ran channel A of my Amp to this speaker selector and channel B to my living room sub woofer. The speaker selector did it's job perfectly. Each room sounds amazing. I really like the on/off feature for only playing music in the rooms I want. I can use the zone volume nobs to adjust sound levels differently in each room if needed. This was a great purchase and would recommend this unit to others.

This speaker selector allowed me to balance the volume in six different zones in our house. Specifically, it allowed me to increase the volume for back porch speakers relative to other rooms in the house. Be very careful connecting speaker wires as a stray strand can short out your system--connections are close together and it is easy to have a stray strand. I ordered a ferrule crimping tool set to ensure I can connect the wires without strands slipping out. That said, it is certainly doable to connect 14 and 16 gage wire to the connectors without ferrules; that is how mine is connected until my kit arrives. Sound quality is excellent.

This is a true HIGH END piece of equipment. I have been in the electronics business for over 40 years...I needed a new switcher with zone volume control for each room...I got this...I am blown away. This could easily sell for $400 or more. grab it. You will thank me.

The volume control simply doesn't work

This device works well, and is accurately described in advertisement. Your home's pre-wired prep set up will effect the ease of hookup of this device. Speaker wire hook up on rear is hardwired, not plug and play with banana plugs, meaning you need adequate room and dexterity to accurately install wires and screw tighten each wire to unit. It's balanced impedence circuitry gives good protection to lower power, low capacitance power amplifiers.
