KINGLAKE Steel J Hook Bee Hive Tool Frame Lifter and Scraper,Beekeeping Equipment, 10-1/2-Inch

This is a standard hive tool for beekeeping. I like the hook style tools (that this one is) rather than the standard American hive tool. I find it easier to pry up a frame with the hook. This one works well and the price was very good - less than I could find anywhere else.

This is a workhorse of a hive tool. I've used it for endless hive inspections and work and it never lets me down. The steel is solid and robust, while it also isn't so hefty that it is a burden. Its ergonomics allows me to keep it in my hand as I move through the hive, but it also slips into a bee suit pocket very easily. The frame lifter function makes hive inspections move right along, while the scraper is perfect for tidying up and maintaining the hive. This is a great tool for the price and it's certainly durable enough to last quite a long time, if not indefinitely.

I have a couple beehives and I'm pretty new to the hobby. I have collected a few different styles of hive tools, but this is my favorite. The wide end's edges tapes so they are "sharp" enough to separate boxes. The "hooked" end is perfect for removing frames one end at a time. Good tool. I have two of this style and I want another. I recommend having multiple hive tools. When you need it, it's always in a different place that is just too far to reach in the moment. Buy a couple!

This is a great hive tool made from a flat piece of metal. Very sturdy, lifted all frames without a problem. The edge was nice and sharp to get in between the boxes. With a bright red handle so you can see it from far away if you lose it.

I think I have 10 hive tools with 4 different designs now... but I keep going back to the simple effectiveness of the J-hook. I have a tool with a flat edge on one side that I thought would be useful as a crow-bar for separating deep boxes, but that thick edge just makes accidentally crushing bees too easy. I have a tool with a wooden handle in the middle that I thought would be comfortable, but it just doesn't give you the leverage you need. The J-hook is just the right combination of leverage for separating boxes sealed with propolis, the ability to separate out your frames, and the ability to get the first 'lift' of a frame out of the box. Get more than one. You will inevitably misplace one while working in a hive and need to quickly get your hands on one.

It’s a good quality tool, I have another just like it. Good quality and easy to use. Not super heavy and is a good size to fit in my tool bag. Looks like name brand and is comfortable to hold. However this is the second time I’ve bought this tool and it has come damaged. It can be sharpened out but still.

I’m a new beekeeper so I was worried about not knowing what the performance should be of a hive tool, but this one works great. It’s easy to remove the frames, it’s a sturdy tool, the size is great for my deep or medium hives, super versatile because I use it to open and close my smoker as well.
