Better priced on Amazon than the product website
I got this authentic DNA kit at a better price than the actual website, during their Mother’s Day sale. The kit arrived and was very easy to use. It gives you step by step instructions to make an account, download the app, register your kit and then take and mail your test. It took just a few seconds to spit into the collection tube and complete the test. There are options to expedite your test results, I did not do that. I had my results within 2 weeks. Interesting to see your results and also the traits you inherited from each parent. Glad I tried it.

some advantages over other testing companies
I've done DNA testing with all of the major companies now. And I've been at this DNA stuff for almost 15 years now. * I found the ethnicity estimate to be just about equal to everyone else. You can get more detail running your own models via gedmatch but for the curious or beginner, this is the easy result. If you just want to know whether you need a kilt or lederhosen or green beer for the next holiday seasons then this works as well, with many particular limitations, as any of the others. * There's no medical interpretation - most don't anymore. You can get good medical results running your raw download through Promethease for a few bucks. If you want to know medical propensities then Ancestry won't help much on its own. * The relationship calculations are pretty accurate and the database is huge. Compared to my other tests, this one returned far more and much closer connections. If you're looking for birth parents and such, this is the place to start. Just remember that the calculator is an estimate and other possibilities exist. - The sampling process was simple "spit in a tube, mail it in" - I much prefer cheek swabs but this gets the job done. - Time was super fast for me - 4 weeks from mail-in. I have a test out with one company that is nearing 3 months to process. - The user interface is pretty simple for newbies but doesn't offer much in the way of analysis tools for those who have DNA experience. Gedmatch can makeup for the shortfall in analysis tools if you can get your matches to upload there. - The ease of creating an attached tree makes for some particularly easy genealogical research to confirm/refute family connections. - The ease of creating an attached tree makes for some particularly prevalent errors in family trees. - yDNA and mtDNA predictive markers are hidden in these results if you want to make an effort to dig them out. - The marketing of this tester has created a large database of folks who were only interested in ethnicity and admixture estimates who have no interest in and won't reply to genealogy queries. Many haven't logged back in since they got their results back. There seem to be a lot of customers who forgot that molecular biology, human origins and migrations geography, and world history weren't their best subjects in school and were expecting this to return an easy result to "grasp it all" in a few minutes. The more you want to dig, the more complex the understanding will become. "DNA for Dummies" is a master's degree - "All You Ever Wanted to Know..." is a PhD. If you get hung up on needing to understand it all in a few short hours then you're going to get very frustrated. Take it in a little at a time. Having spent many $1000's on this hobby over the years, I'm very pleased with this $70 investment into understanding who I am and where I came from. Your mileage may vary.

Eye-Opening, Easy to Use, and Truly Insightful
I had a great experience with the AncestryDNA Test Kit. It’s an excellent starter kit for anyone curious about their ethnic background and family origins. We often assume we know where we come from, but the results can be surprisingly different and in my case, incredibly eye-opening. The process itself is simple and convenient. You just provide a saliva sample, seal it, and send it back using the prepaid postage. Then it’s just a matter of waiting, I received my results in about five weeks, with helpful progress updates along the way. What really stood out to me was how detailed and informative the results were. The ethnicity breakdown is presented clearly, with region-specific insights, historical context, and explanations of how different populations may have moved over time. I was especially surprised by the strong Puerto Rican connection in my results, along with links to Native American ancestry. It wasn’t something I expected, but the way it was explained made everything come together. Another great feature is the ability to connect with potential relatives. I was able to reach out to a few matches and even discovered new family information, which made the experience even more meaningful. While this is a basic test compared to more advanced maternal or paternal lineage kits, it’s a fantastic introduction to understanding your roots. The results feel accurate, the platform is easy to use, and there are plenty of ways to explore further without needing a subscription right away. Overall, this is more than just a fun activity, it’s the start of a deeper personal journey. Excellent value and highly recommended!

Eye-opening and worth it
I decided to try the AncestryDNA Genetic Test Kit and I’m honestly glad I did. The process was simple, the instructions were clear, and mailing it back was easy. The results came back detailed and personalized, breaking down my origins and ethnicities in a way that actually made sense. Seeing the percentages and regions mapped out gave me a deeper understanding of where my roots connect globally. The platform itself is user-friendly, and exploring family matches and historical records adds another layer to the experience. For value for money, I think it’s worth it because you’re not just getting numbers, you’re getting insight into your background and connections you may not have known about. If you’re curious about your ancestry or want a clearer picture of your heritage, this is definitely something to consider.

AncestryDNA DNA Test Kit
What This Product Is The AncestryDNA kit is a home saliva DNA test that analyzes your genetic markers to estimate ethnicity origins, connect you with potential DNA relatives, and integrate results with Ancestry’s extensive family‑tree database. You collect a saliva sample, mail it back, and view results online after processing. --- Pros Very large DNA database, which increases the chance of finding relatives Clear, easy‑to‑read ethnicity reports with regional breakdowns User‑friendly app and website for beginners and genealogy hobbyists Results improve over time as the database updates No subscription required just to view DNA results --- Cons (Common Critiques Addressed) Ethnicity estimates are not exact and may shift with future updates — this is a frequent complaint but is normal for DNA testing, not unique to Ancestry Results take several weeks, which can frustrate some users Health data is not included (unlike some competitors) Privacy‑conscious users may dislike storing genetic data online (opt‑out controls are available but require effort) --- Who This Product Is For ✅ People curious about heritage and ancestry ✅ Those researching family history or unknown relatives ✅ Users who want the largest matching pool, not medical insights ❌ Not ideal if you want health or trait reports ❌ Not for those expecting 100% precise ethnicity percentages --- Overall Verdict AncestryDNA is one of the best options for ancestry exploration, especially if finding relatives or building a family tree matters. As long as buyers understand that ethnicity estimates are probabilistic, not absolute, this is a reliable and well‑supported product.

Definitely worth it!
Learned a lot of information and got my full genetic code as well. I then ran that through a free service that told me risks and benefits based on my genetic information. It’s amazing the capabilities we have at our fingertips these days. Worth it!

DO NOT BUY IF YOU’RE BASED OUTSIDE THE US
This product should not be made available for shipment outside the US. To have your DNA sample analyzed you will need to collect the specimen and ship it back to the US so that Ancestry can analyze. However, the postage stamp for the return package is only for within the US. If I you contact Aramex or any other shipping company to send a human specimen, they will ask for a CDC report. I tried visiting govt clinics and calling ministry of health and they all confirmed that this can’t be done if they weren’t the ones collecting the specimens. So this product is useless and you will lose money..

Great value, detailed ethnicity info and a few surprises. Very impressed
This is an excellent starter kit for anyone interested in learning more about or understanding their ethnic roots. We tend to think we're British or Afro/Caribbean, American or European or whatever. The truth is often surprising. DNA testing for ethnicity is still relatively young, but the database is growing and having taken this test, I'm both surprised, impressed and convinced by the results. My roots are diverse. There was no way that could have been known by Ancestry as I'm not a member. The test is easy; you provide a saliva sample in a tube, seal it and send it. Postage prepaid. Sit back and wait for results. Mine took 5 weeks, with a couple of progress updates. The readout is informed and comprehensive. A pie chart ethnicity breakdown with detailed region specific analysis and an illustrated history. Possible socio/economic influences which are likely to have affected movement of people. In my case, the overwhelming Scottish DNA profile was unexpected, but with the explanation of the story provided by Ancestry, it makes sense. Also some interesting genetic connections to Andeans and native Americans which were a surprise. The results also identify possible people matches; Ancestry members to whom there's a direct connection. I've contacted a couple on my list and unearthed some family detail which is new to me. This is a basic test. There are other mitochondrial kits for the maternal line, specifically and another for the paternal side. But they're more expensive. The Ancestry DNA ethnicity test is an excellent introduction to who you really are. I'm convinced the results are accurate and relevant, impressed with the detail provided and there's loads of ways to add more info without actually subscribing to Ancestry. This is more than fun, it's a building block for a bigger story. Excellent value

You need time but tests are fantastic.
My friend originally told me not to get one they are useless. He found out from a family member that his father wasn't his biological father. I helped with his test and was amazed by how good it was. I brought my first test last November and my test came back end of December, my results proved most of my lines but I have lost some(or maybe someone was unfaithful). 72%Irish makes sense. I know some people complain about their results but a lot can make sense if you know history and go back far enough in time. Since December I have brought a test for my mother, her sister, my dad's brother, and my husband. All perfect and making sense. My mother and aunt 100%Irish. Uncle and hubby are mixed. In fact it didn't just say we were Irish it actually marked exactly what part of Ireland. UK born tests are getting a lower amount of 4th cousins and nearer than Irish born as a lot emigrated to America, and I am getting a lot of matches there. All I would say is if you want to find out your make up for fun that's fine. If you are expecting it to work out your tree for you, it won't. You need to have some knowledge of your tree (I started my tree 13+yrs ago), and a lot of time spent on the computer. With help of other online groups and GEDmatch also videos online I have found Ancestry all I could wish for and more. It's addictive. - After my results being back for 8plus months I can say I am still getting new relations coming online. Only thing I don't like is the amount of people who only just do the test for fun and the % of their make up. They you can see only went online for the test on % and aren't interested in Family history research. I have known a few who have found close relatives they never knew about Inc my husband. Delighted to have done the tests, and want to get more... Just waiting for the price to come down lower. Better buying from Amazon as not postage but have brought directly when offer was on with Ancestry.
