Chipotle Powder Organic, 2.65 Ounce

Color, size, ingredients, quality seasoning as described. Spiciness is HOT HOT HOT. Very little goes a long, long way with this one! Aromatic and adds a subtle flavor that permeates throughout anything tomato based. I like it a lot, not likely to need more than one a year though.

Our local grocer discontinued this for some reason. So I was stuck paying a few dollars extra to get it here once I ran out. I'm no cook/chef, I just use spices to help add flavor to my bland cooking efforts. This is terrific, but I'm eager to learn more about how to use it properly; as great as the flavor is, the sheer heat can knock out the ability to enjoy the underlying flavor. I'm assuming there's no real way around this, it's the nature of the plant/product. Am experimenting with combining with paprika, and I always use it with salt which seems to tone down the heat just a bit. If there was any way to tone down that heat, it would be an all-time favorite flavor of mine...I always have to decide when I use it how much I'm willing to suffer in order to enjoy it. Currently experimenting with either loading it on to my food, or using only very little...the latter seems to bring out the flavor more with less heat, but isn't as fulfilling as eating more of it, of course, would be. I use other products from this company, great brand, reasonable prices (aside from this jacked up price, lol).

I like this brand and it has quality spices. I have not tried this particular one but expect it is just as good.

Greetings from The Captain. Folks, I enjoy spicy foods, but not to the the extent they trouble me hours later, and that doesn't appear to be a problem with this. This is my first purchase of Chipotle powder, and I really enjoy it. Unlike some of the other reviews, I do think this has a definite spicy kick to it, although overall it may be more characterized by it's smoky flavor. It certainly isnt anywhere near as mild as something like cumin, for example. I actually grabbed it from the kitchen earlier thinking it was cumin, and was a bit surprised when I tasted the bite on my steamed chicken and vegetables! :) Folks, I also love that this is organic, and in a glass shaker to alleviate my mild concerns about leeching. I'm going to try this as an experiment in my chili and guacamole recipes, and look forward to the results. It is an okay product if you like really hot.

Be warned! I love my spicy food, but you need to do your own trial and error with this stuff before adding a lot. My daughter made tacos one night and added a tsp into the mix. It was so spicy that it overpowered all the other flavors and left our mouths on fire for a good 30 minutes. A little goes a long way unless you want that kick in the mouth fire. Great addition though in small amounts to chili, tacos, you name it!
