Great controller, I’d say the best one PlayStation ever made. I use it on my PC for Elden Ring and the souls games and sometimes I’ll Bluetooth it to my phone to play mobile games with super easy and works like new!

this has been quite a journey. i bought these refurbished units to replace older controllers that had issues with keeping a charge. they were old and rather than replace the batteries, i opted for these. the units looked new. the plastic was shiny and the units looked sturdy. then i connected them. at first all seemed well and then they started shutting off. i thought maybe the energy saving option was set wrong so i changed it but the units - both of them - were acting the same way. sometimes while i was actually playing. this prompted me to go set up the return because these were obviously not working as expected. and instead of replacing the new ones with a 3rd party unit or another amazon refurbish, i bought a pair of replacement batteries. the batteries were easy to install in my old units and the controllers worked like new. they still are. i had until december to package these refurbished units and return them but i had another thought. what if i replaced the batteries in these refurbished units - i could be out the cash for both controllers and some batteries if it didn’t work. but i took the chance anyway. i purchased the same replacement batteries i bought for my old units and replaced the batteries in my refurbished units. the first thing i noticed was the batteries in these units. they are clearly cheap after market batteries and they are smaller than the normal batteries. there is a plastic tray inside the controller that the battery sits in and these were actually in there with double sided foam tape. so i canceled my returns. the units are solid now that they have the correct batteries in them. of course me admitting i opened these units and replaced the batteries probably voids their warranty. in the photo, the two identical batteries at the top are the batteries that were in the amazon refurbished units. the larger gray one with the orange label is what i replaced those with. i always try to be careful when buying refurbished items. i haven’t had a lot of poor experiences with them in the past and for me, i felt that amazon was a trusted seller. but after this, i will think again before buying refurbished items from amazon. your mileage may vary. buyer beware.

Still breaking in only used for maybe 2 to 3 hours

This refurbished controller is just what I expected from a company that values high-quality actuators: no drift, no jitter, and highly sensitive motion control. To avoid damaging the actuators like my last one, I've switched the layout settings in all games (that permit it) to avoid clicking the motion sticks, and I strongly recommend doing that. It also reduces wear on your thumbs. There are only 2 rubs so far: 1) the circle button requires a bit more pressure to be detected, so if I'm hurrying, it may get missed; and 2) a couple of times, the controller has suddenly disconnected as though the battery died when the power was fine (not a big problem, since that automatically pauses the game). So far, everything else is like new. Good purchase, and leagues better than the off-brand one it replaced.

The PS4 is still alive and kicking! Yes, it's true that a real gamer has their paws all over the PS5 but, like many, the price point of the PS5 is just too freaking high. So, the PS4 does the trick. However, there's nothing worse then the controller buttons going on the fritz just when you're about to take on the hordes of invaders from where ever they happen to be coming from. Yeah, frozen buttons are no fun - because then the bad guys win while you there pounding on the buttons, try to get them to work (game over). So it's time for a new controller. I thought I was doing myself a favor by going the "budget controller" route but found out very quickly that you get what you pay for when it comes to budget PS4 controllers. So, back to the drawing board. I spotted this "renewed" controller by Amazon and snapped it up. And it works exactly the same as the controllers that came with the unit. All the buttons are in the same place and it is pretty much a stock Sony PS4 controller, and for a lot less than you'd pay for a brand-new one. All the same features and a lower price. And I'm back to saving the world with all of my functional buttons! And it gets my full 5 star rating!

THESE ARE NOT PROPERLY RENEWED, THESE WILL ARRIVE WITH MECHANICAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY AMAZONS FLAWED REFURBISHING AND USE OF CHEAP REPLACEMENT PARTS. First off, I have 6 dual shock 4s to compare this controller to, and they have done something to both the triggers as well as the bumper buttons to where they no longer are stock, but are also not replaced with OEM or like new replacements, the triggers do not function correctly do to this, and the bumpers stick horribly not due to the actual plastic mechanical connection which would be the common source of problems in actual dual shock 4 controllers, but instead because the actual rubber membrane buttons have been swapped on both the triggers and bumpers to cheap copies that do not perform ANYTHING like the actual products. It's just not worth wasting your money on this product, at least if an original Sony controller has problems they are very good about supporting warranty replacements that DO NOT have these issues, but with this crappy Amazon product you're just SOL and have wasted money.
