I LOVE CHECKING ON MY PETS WHEN IM AWAY FROM HOME!!!
Im writing this review a couple weeks after I first used the Petzi Treat Cam. I wanted to make sure that I used it many, many times over several days, before I wrote my review. I cant tell you how MANY people will write a review about a product they have hardly used. You have to use something,,,for a fair period of time, THEN you can write a fair review. I have two cats. 16 years old. Both very active still, but I worry a little more now, because they are seniors. So I found Petzi Treat Cam. I was so happy somebody thought to invent this!!!! I will always have pets in my life, so I figured it was an investment. Those of you who find the price scary, think of it as an investment. Plus, it can be used to just generally view a room,,,,,,,kinda like a nanny cam. The set up was pretty easy. It took me about 10 minutes. My cats learned within 5 minutes, that treats come out of the unit. I think it will be different for each pet,,,,every pet has a different personality,,,and although my cats took to it easily, there may be pets out there, that are timid, and maybe afraid of it at first. They will get use to it....no worries. So, Ive never had problems with WIFI connections. Ive been able to connect each time I would like, to view my cats. When you connect, a bell will go off at your home, letting your pet know you are "there". You CAN remotely turn off the bell,,,so that you can view your pet without disturbing them. You can call your pet over to the camera. Its one of the features I like the best,,,,,that you can call your pet. I suppose it would be nice if you could hear your pet,,,,,but they can only hear you. You cant hear your cat meow, or your doggie bark. You can launch treats at them with a touch of the button!!! LOVE IT. OK,,,here is the important part. If you have cats,,,,cat treats are MUCH smaller than dog treats. The units will launch like 10 cat treats at once. That is too much,,,in my opinion. I think that dog treats, like milk bones,,,are better for the unit. I think it might just spit out one or two of those. IF YOU HAVE CATS: This is how Ive worked around the treat issue. Ive been just dropping a couple treats in the unit, if I think I will want to issue treats that day. That way I can make sure Im controlling how much my cats get. Its not any trouble to load treats. Super easy. The camera quality is a pretty good. Its NOT the best camera quality......but its good enough for what the unit is for. It also has night vision, so you can see your pet in the dark. You can snap pictures of your pet getting treats,,or just enjoying how happy they are when you "drop in" to check on them. The unit comes with a mounting kit, so you can attach it to a wall if you like. I was kind of thinking that I would not mount my unit, because I like the idea of being able to move it around. However, I have found that once your pet realized where the treats come from,,,,they want to touch, paw and lick the unit. So, if its mounted to the wall, the camera is safe, and cant be knocked over, and mauled by an excited pet. Well, I think that that is about it. I think I covered everything. I really, really enjoy the Petzi Treat Cam, and I would buy another.

Stopped working after 2 months
It was great until it quit working after 2 months. We've tried absolutely everything. We've reset the camera, reset our network, tried multiple different networks... Nothing works. Now it just sits and collects dust. This was actually better than expected. We've had this for two weeks, and I love it. I finally decided to order one of these after a neighbor complained about our dog barking all day when we are gone to work. Since we use an anti-barking device and it seems to work, I wanted to be able to check things out during the day to see what's going on. That being said, two-way sound would be a great feature to add. I can tell if my dog is barking or not just by looking at what she's doing, but adding that feature would make this product much better. My dog is a bit skiddish, so I have to turn the sound off that the camera makes when it turns on. The sound it makes when it spits the treats out also freaks her out a bit, but once she sees a treat on the ground she runs right over. I was very impressed with the quality of the night mode. The picture is clear and bright, so I can still see very well even when our apartment is dark. Overall, I've discovered it's not our dog barking during the day and she just sleeps in the chair waiting for us to get home. A couple of things I really am missing with this: I would LOVE to have a web application so I can log in and view the camera stream on a computer, rather than just using the mobile application. I imagine this is something others would find this a useful feature as well. It would also be great if you could grant temporary access to other users (like if I have a friend watching my dog while I am out of town, I could give them a pin to use to access the feed for a set period of time). Offering an option to use a memory card to record footage, so you don't have to have the app open and be looking at the screen constantly, would be really great. It would add a bit of security camera capabilities, rather than just a toy for your pets. I was pleasantly surprised with how great this worked out. Definitely room for improvement, but it was a purchase that was worth the money for sure.

Good bang for the buck. Some minor problems, easy workarounds though.
PROS: - Great for keeping an eye on your pets while away. ( I found out which one of my dogs was the one that kept hiding my slippers) - On days you will be gone longer than usual, you can fill the thing with kibble and feed them their meals from anywhere. - Also good for home security. (Landlord came in with electrician for major repairs (scheduled) while I was away and I had it placed so I can see most of the house *due to my own paranoia* and was able to keep watch to make sure they only did what they were supposed to and not go in other rooms.) - Has Night Vision - Camera Quality is good for the price. Not as good as newer smartphone cameras, but then again.. you can buy about 8 of these for the price of a smartphone.. - Fun and addicting to watch. (Especially at work) - Can talk into your phone and talk using the box as a speaker. CONS: - Making an account for the Petzi app, had a small problem (made an account and says it doesn't exist, tried to make another account says email is already in use.) Just used a different email and made another account and it worked.) - There is a 3-5 second delay, but that's not really much of an issue unless you were trying to do some sort of training that involved timing. (In which case you should being doing that in person.) Internet speeds doesn't seem to matter much. Tested with Google Fiber and Spectrum 100mb/s speeds. - Switching from WiFi to 4G disconnects the app. - Sometimes doesn't connect "Whoopsi", "Camera not plugged in", "No connection", etc. (Simple fix to this that works for me is to close the app COMPLETELY (close the process) wait a little bit, then reopen the app and it works. - While in camera mode, there is an "AFK checker" (Countdown timer asking if you are still there.) If you don't press YES, then the camera will close. Pops up every few minutes. Not too much of a hassle but it does get slightly annoying. - Microphone communication is only 1 way. From phone to box. Box is only a speaker. - Made me realize how much of a stalker I am.... (I can't not want to watch my dogs at work now.) Overall I'm happy with the product. Researched the product before I bought to see if it's what I needed and compared it to other similar products. The app also does have it's own social media with other Petzi users that you can take a picture with and share. But I don't really use it. If you're looking for something to play and interact with your pet with (like a laser feature) or want a home security system that records and allows you to playback recorded footage, this might not be right for you. If you're looking for a "nanny-cam" with decent camera quality (no playback/no recording. Live stream only) to check on your pets and reward / feed them for not destroying your furniture while you're away, This might be good for you as it was for me.

A good interactive camera, but could use a few improvements
This is a great product that has some room for improvement. I mainly purchased this because of the treat dispensing feature. I have a dog who likes to wander into the kitchen and get into the trash when I'm gone, and I wanted to find a way I could train this behavior out by rewarding him for staying in the living room. It's been really helpful so far, but I've mostly used it as a way to check in on my dogs instead of a training aid. Pros: + Treat dispensing feature is great. You are able to use any kinds of treats you want, although they have suggestions for what works best. + Video is good quality. You are able to take snapshots. + You can send audio. + Overall a good design. I worried about my dogs trying to bust open the container to get the treats but it would be hard to do so. It's easy to mount it on the wall. It looks nice. + The support team is very nice. They respond promptly and they are very helpful. They seem to genuinely care about keeping their customers, unlike some dog product companies. If you have a problem with your device, I'm sure they will fix it. + The camera only turns on when you connect through the app. Cons: - Audio is only one-way. Originally, their Kickstarter said it would be two-way so I'm not sure what happened there. This feature would have been a major improvement. - You can only view the camera through their application. It would be great if there was a way to view it online too, so I can keep an eye on it throughout the day. - There are delays with everything. Your video is delay by a few seconds, and any interactive button you push has a delay as well. I expected a slight delay, but it's slower than I hoped. My internet connection is fast, so that isn't the issue here. - Treat dispensing mechanism can use some work. They suggest hard treats that are at least 1 inch long, but even the treats they supply you with that match this description aren't perfect. Sometimes one treat gets dispensed, sometimes 4+ do. I've also seen it get stuck once. I wish there was a better way to control how much got dispensed. - Minor con, but I feel their their social feature is a waste of time. They created a new social networking site that you can upload pictures of your pets to, much like instagram and the more dog-focused Pack. It has nothing to do with the camera. I rarely even see any photos posted that are actually taken from snapshots. I wish they would have put the effort into improving another part of the application instead. Some easier improvements: I'd like to see the addition of video recording in the future in addition to their snapshot feature. I'd also like to see a way to record video throughout the day. Currently, you're only able to view the camera when you connect with your phone. You can't see what happened in the past. It would also be great if you could set it up to alert you when there's movement. Overall, it's a good purchase if you want to be able to interact with your pet more, instead of just watching them.

GREAT IDEA...NEEDS MORE WORK!
Let's start by saying... if I considered this product is because I'm a pet lover, and I wanted to keep an eye on my dog while we're not home. I had seen and heard about Petzi treat cam, and I had it on my wish list for a while... UNTIL my dog someway somehow got out of our patio (which was really strange since our dog is very well trained and never looks to run away even when we have the doors fully open). This situation was really uncomfortable and worrying that I decided to get this product for the camera. As soon as I got it I jumped on it to get it set up, very excited to see it work. I downloaded the app and started the registration and pairing process, but the app kept on jamming my phone and getting totally stuck. When I finally get the app to work after unistalling it, rebooting the phone, closing everything else (a big pain in the rear...) now the Petzi doesn't want to work! The app would not recognize any device. I got so frustrated I was about to return it. When you purchase an expensive product you expect quality for your money. I decided to call their customer support which was very useless...I spent over an hour on the phone and nothing changed. The guy kept on asking the same questions over and over again like if I were to be dumb. I'm tech savvy and I know what I'm doing, and I know when a product does not work. Then they tried to tell me that amazon had sent me and old model... which I don't know why amazon would do that if you pay one price for one same product (you're not given the option to purchase a different model). Long story short, I finally made it work, but the resolution of the camera is not that great, and the app takes a while to load the camera. It comes with complimentary milk bones and meow treats for you to start the usage, and it does dispense the treats. I kept it but I'm not a happy customer.

Cat tested, momma approved.
This thing is soooo awesome. Our boy Iago loves food (and he loves human attention), so we chose this instead of the laser light one. He very quickly learned to come right away when it is activated, so I can very easily check on him when I'm away at work or whenever he's alone at home. He occasionally will try to mess with it, to get food out, or because there's a bit of treat that landed in the little chute and didn't pop out. But it works very well. The images are grainy, for sure, think front-facing camera from several years ago, but it has a B&W / mono mode for low light that works pretty well. Being able to talk to him is nice, also. It wall mounted very easily, and we used the adhesive piping for cables to guard the power cable, which can be routed several different ways. We had a little trouble initially getting the Android app set up... we eventually I think had to get the iPhone app to set it up - after that, Android worked fine, but we couldn't get the device going for anything until we used the iPhone app. I didn't take a star off for this, but it would've been a game killer if we hadn't had an iPhone handy. Make sure to think about lighting before you place it, and also it's nice to put it in a room where your cat hangs out, that way you can see him as he's coming to you, or you know if he's ignoring you (which Iago never does for this thing). Oh, one bonus recommendation from our vet - we mixed some hard food in with the treats, because we do not give Iago treats daily, but we wanted to use the Petzi more... this way he can have it a little more often (we try for once a day on weekdays, I don't always remember, so I end up maybe using it 3-4 times a week) without feeling too badly. All of that and considering we were able to get a discounted refurb unit makes this thing absolutely awesome.

2 separate units, 2 of the same failures
Purchased as a gift for my wife. The first unit had a very poor quality camera which was more noise than streaming. After about a month, the unit would completely lock up and and would have to be reset completely and re-added to the app and network daily. Thinking I got a bad unit, I returned it for another. The camera quality on the second unit was even worse than the first, it was next to impossible to get a clear image of the dog. Thinking it may be a network issue, I connected it to the same network all my security cameras use flawlessly and the issue remained the same. After about a week with the second unit, it started to lock up as well and had to be fully reset and re-added to the network and app daily. We spent more time resetting it to keep it working than we actually used it. Both units didn't included the sample of treats listed on the package so you knew what size to purchase. Both units, if the treats were two small, would shoot a handful of treats half way across the room so the dog could not get to the from his crate. Both units operated very loudly and would initially scare the dog with all the clicking and snapping. The whole process was extremely disappointing and a waste of time. Great idea, poor hardware, firmware, and quality. When returning the second unit for a refund, I was offered the current price the unit was selling for, not the higher price I had initially paid. I will contact amazon support for this once they receive the second defective unit back. I'm pretty sure they will make it right. Don't waste your time on this one...twice.

Great when it works like it should.. which isn't so common..
It's a great idea/concept, but need some serious work. I have a nice router and fast internet (50mb up/30mb down) and the image is often distorted and there are so many connection issues. I can understand the lag between the internet, home wifi, and the unit being a few seconds delayed, but when you watch and then have the images gets all grainy and lined it's like come on. Is it a connection issue, server issue, or product issue?? The product is built solid and was shocked how far it launched treats. I think it may be a bit excessive, but I have pea size treats if they were closer to the 1inch I guess it wouldn't go flying cross the room. The cat also isn't afraid of the noise, which is great. Overall I bought this to see my cat and I can't say I always can. I am forced to reconnect several times before getting an image and then the quality is spotty at best. If this thing was cheaper I don't think I would mind, but at its current price point it really needs to work right all the time and just not a small portion of it. Is this a common issue with this product or could it be a defective unit please let me know. Either wise I may be returning it for a refund. Update: Continued camera/connection issues has lead to me returning the product. It's a great concept, but the company needs to work on making it work 100% of the time.

excelente funcionamiento
me encanto!! funciono desde el 1er momento, no tuve ningún inconveniente con la cámara, lo único que se necesita es una excelente conexión a internet.

No tan bueno
