Quality lock and brand
I use the Kryptonite New York 1275 Cinch Ring Chain on my e-bike, primarily to secure the front wheel, and it’s been outstanding so far. The build quality is exactly what I was looking for — heavy, solid, and confidence-inspiring. You can immediately tell this is a serious security lock, not a lightweight deterrent. The cinch-ring design gives me a lot of flexibility in how I secure the bike, whether I’m locking the wheel to a rack or looping through the frame when I want extra coverage. Even at 2.5 feet, it’s long enough for practical everyday use without being bulky or awkward to carry. The chain covering also helps protect the paint and doesn’t snag or fray. The Evolution disc lock clicks firmly into place and the keys feel high-quality — not flimsy like cheaper locks. I appreciate that it’s Sold Secure Gold rated, which was a big selling point for me with an e-bike. Yes, it’s heavier than standard bike locks, but I see that as a benefit for the level of security it provides. I’d rather carry a bit of extra weight and know my bike is protected. It just goes in my rear basket. Overall, this chain lock gives me real peace of mind when I park my e-bike in public. Strong, well-designed, and worth the investment for higher-value bikes. Highly recommended.

Whatever you do ...DON'T FORCE THE KEY! But if you do they'll replace it.
This is an excellent lock. But if you're having trouble opening the lock and force the key, the key WILL break. Kryptonite will refund your locksmith bill AND replace your lock - that's why this review gets 5 stars instead of 4. Chain: Pros: Huge, but not too long. Heavy, but not too heavy. Intimidating enough that it will hopefully turn away any sorry sops with bolt cutters before they even try. Jacketed in a sturdy sleeve to avoid the pinchy-pinchy finger effect. Also, this chain is just downright attractive. Cons: Ok - so it's a little heavier then what's comfortable for a small or unfit person to move around, but if you bike a lot you've gotta be fit (haha not me), right? And it can be a little too short if you're stuck locking up to a thick pole or column. Lock: Pros: Good sturdy lock. Never had mine picked. Cons: If you don't listen to instructions and force the key, it WILL break, and it's INCREDIBLY hard to fish out, if not impossible - depends on how the key breaks. If the key resists, stick a screwdriver or something in the lock to re-align the tumblers and try again. Once more, DO NOT force the key! It will break!

A strong lock with weak insurance
The chain is serious protection, and I love the cinch design for getting a more extended reach than a loop would allow. This is not a chain you take with you on a regular bike unless you're desperate. It's too heavy. It's excellent for ebikes and for leaving at a regular locking location, such as in your garage or outside your office/school. The key works smoothly, and the lock is coated to prevent it from scratching the bike's paint. One issue I had with an Abus chain and padlock was that there wasn't enough room to get both links into the padlock without great difficulty. This chain and lock has ample room. It makes a huge difference when locking up at night with cold hands. The reason I don't give it five stars is that after an hour of trying to get the images of my sales receipts down to Krytonite's combined max of 5 megs for three images, I found out that the registration for protection process results in an offer for auxiliary insurance! I even had this problem with Kryptonite's app camera. It generated images too long for its own use! I was thinking the "New York" lock would protect my New York ebike. I doubt anyone will steal my bike, given how strong the lock is, but I wasted a lot of time going through the registration process before learning it was only an offer for one or two years of paid insurance. Reject the insurance, and the lock cannot be registered. That really annoyed me. To me, included theft insurance is like an extended warranty, demonstrating confidence in one's product. I sure hope Kryptonite doesn't know something about the lock that I don't. Just tell purchasers that the lock does not come with insurance.

This lock is ROBUST
I went into this purchase knowing that this lock was going to be heavy duty which is just what I needed for my new eBike, and man this thing did not disappoint. It is definitely heavy duty and robust and is even more so than I expected. I haven't had any trouble with it yet, and it's protected my bike excellently *knock on wood*. It is heavy (and I got the smaller length), so you will absolutely want to make sure that you have something to transport it in for your rides as there's no way I would want to "wear" it like people do with lighter weight chains. This lock and chain are absolute beasts, so if you need to really protect your bike this is worth checking out.

Thwarted Thief with Power Tool!
I live in manhattan and have to park my bike outside. The bike is worth about $800 and it's about 2 months old. This morning when I went outside, the bike was twisted on its chain in a way that was clearly not just from NYers bumping into it. It looked like someone had tried to move it for easy access to the lock. When I unlocked it, I saw that someone had tried to saw through the steel U prong and made a flap of steel about an inch long and 1/2 inch deep. The lock held though! Yay lock! My previous bike was stolen so I feel some vindication. Until last week I had been locking it with this lock plus a Fugggetaboutit U lock for extra protection, but I lost part of the Fuggetaboutit and am waiting for Amazon to SLOWLY send me a replacement. This lock is still under warranty from Amazon since it's so new, so I can get a new one, and I'll get my new U lock soon - so hopefully I will continue to thwart them if they come back with bigger tools. I would say to anybody who is wondering though - I wouldn't lock it with this lock alone, at least in a bad area. They definitely made headway. I was lucky they didn't get all the way through the steel. UPDATE: 6/22/13 - the lock is still doing great. Since the bike is outside it has had to deal with rain and snow, but other than needing to be oiled once, it's been a champ! I am now using it with the Kryptonite U lock I mentioned above. As far as I can tell, nobody has even tried to tamper with it since the first failed effort. Update 9/12/13 - I have to say, GREAT LOCK. Just needs oiling once in a while. Out in rain and all that. The noose is really nice, makes for less struggling to get the lock on the bike. Also, some of the posts in NYC are really fat and a typical ULock will not fit around them. The noose solves that problem also. Unless you're Superman though, you won't carry this around. You pick your spot and leave it there (way too heavy, but that's why it works). 7/14 The lock is still going strong. This winter broke records with snow. During one of the storms my bike was seat-high in snow. When spring came, I had to replace the bike chain, but not the lock!

Lightest chain that still tell theives to f off
This is the chain to go with if you've ever had a theft attempt on your bike, or are smart enough to prevent it. My old chain was about halfway cut through when I found it and for some reason the thief didn't finish the job. Not becuase they couldn't, b/c the chain was barley still together. That's when I said i paid too much for my bike to play this game. I have to step up and get a legit lock. "But damn" i said to myself, those heavy high end kryptonite locks weigh so much. Some of them 15 lbs, and that's not feasible to ride around with all the time for me. Enter this model chain. This is the lightest, most well designed form of a heavy duty "maximum security" chain that kryptonite offers. First off, let's just lay it out there. Yes, any chain can ultimately be cut through if the thief has enough balls and enough time to break them out in public. A freaking plasma cutter can melt steel and I suppose if you somehow rigged one up to ur truck and went out in the middle of the night, you could cut any lock thats physically made. However, short of that, the kryptonite new york "fuggetaboutit" level locks and these new york "series 4" are the highest protection you can buy. They are not made of steel but manganese, making them "almost" impossible to cut through. And you have to realize the mindset of the the theif: they are looking for a quick steal. They don't want to sit down and set up shop in front of your bike trying to take it. So with that in mind, this is the highest level security you can get. It's 11/12 on their security scale and offers the highest level of reimbursement they will pay: $3500 for your bike if the lock is cut. Now enter the idea of it being a noose. One word: BRILLANT. This design esentially doubles the chainlength without doubling the weight, which is HUGE when these chains weigh as much as they do. This chain comes in at about 6 pounds, which is the highest reasonable weight I'll carry on my bike. Infact I wrap this chain around the top tube when I'm using it and unless I'm jumping my bike around obstacles, I dont notice it's there. Ok, so the noose design as you'd imagine turns this 2.25' (not 2.5' like the title says, not sure why they advertise that) and essentially gives you as much chain length from your bike to bike rack as a 4 foot chain would. A regular 4' chain would have to wrap in a circle and you'd connect both ends, so your bike could only really be 2' away from the rack. This chain ALSO gives you 2' between you and the rack with you looping or "noosing" it around the rack, thread it through ur back tire (always) and lock the chain to your seat tube or down tube. See the pic I uploaded. In the end, this chain gives me the best of both worlds. Lighter weight closer to the weaker locks, but the high security and difficulty cutting of the new york locks. Highly recommended and would absolutely buy the noose design again.

Multiuse beast of a lock
I purchased this lock even after having read a few negative reviews about the lock "seizing" up. After a few uses, I started to panic as my lock appeared to have the dreaded seize. The big reason it did not release? I had to apply pressure to the stem and the base for the third cylinder in the lock to turn. Just holding the lock together was all it took. No issues over the nearly daily use of it for the last month. The lock has a wonderful noose in the chain allowing you to shorten the length of chain in use. I suspect this is specifically for preventing car jack lock breaks. I love it because I can get my bike snug to whatever I am attaching and it offers me more opportunities to use my Otto locks for my wheels. As for weight, it is heavy, but I still carry it everyday in my backpack. I do have an ebike, so this may not be as much of an issue. Additionally, I tried three backpacks before I found one I could wear it comfortably with. I have an Arkterixs (sp?) Blade backpack that does the trick. Pro-tip: keep the backpack straps closer to your shoulders to prevent undue back/neck strain. Wonderful lock. I feel safe.

Versatile, strong, reliable
This lock is excellent. It is a little on the heavy side, but it's worth it for a little extra peace of mind. I say 'a little extra peace of mind' because let's face it, there isn't a single lock on the market that is 'theft proof'. They're all just deterrents. The question is how much you want to 'deter'. And when a thief sees this chain on your bike, they'll definitely set their sites on the other bikes in the near vicinity secured with the inferior cable locks. The noose design offers many different locking options for a variety of situations. Check the uploaded images for some examples. I think this length is just right. In my opinion the 4 foot version is just overkill, not to mention almost double the weight. I guess the biggest obstacle that one may encounter with this lock is transporting it. I'm fortunate that it hangs nicely on the back of the seat on my recumbent trike, but it should fit nicely into a back pack or heavy duty pannier.

Kryptonite 999539 - New York Noose 1275

A good chunky and solid lock
A really secure lock which feels really solid. I use this one for securing two bikes together at home. The main downside is the weight but as this is used at home it's fine but I would use a less heavy one if I was out out and about.
