are these already sterilized? is it okay to pour honey in them right away or should i sterilize the container first?

As with anything, you should wash it regardless. But, I don't recommend it. It is passed by return date, if not I would return it. I pour honey and every time there is honey outside the container and around it. Meaning, little by little a small amount of honey leaks out.

What is the top made of? I bought two identical of these but plastic on ebay, the tops came apart within weeks. I trashed them.

Hello! It is made of rugged polished chrome plating ABS plastic, it seems like a metal top because of the quality. The thing is that in the case of glass jar the manufacture couldn't use the metal for the reason of safeaty, not to allow invisible peaces of glass that may get into food due to the active use of the lid.
