We needed a latch for our older kids bedroom loft upstairs because our toddler was opening the door and climbing the stairs by herself. This latch was the most affordable one we could find that was still great quality. It serves the purpose for us - it is easy for the older kids to open, but strong enough that my toddler cannot pull the door open. It was easy to install and came with the screws needed to do so. The size and thickness are perfect for an indoor door or outdoor gate, and the black color has a matte finish, which we preferred over something shiny. Overall, we are very happy with this product!

We originally installed our barn door to keep our nosy pets away from some new furniture in our den. It took our cat all of about 2 minutes to discover that he could push to slide the door open and sneak inside. If not for the cat, the dog would probably still be sitting there, staring at the new door. But, in they went and were found lounging on the new sofa. This is why we can't have nice things. A quick Amazon search on barn door latches helped me find this particular item and it's exactly what we were looking for. It's heavy duty and of excellent quality, has a nice finish and installed quickly. Because of the offset between the barn door and the wall, we chose to mount the latch hook on the end of the door and the latch "eye" on the adjacent wall. It looks great and works perfectly. Now the cat just pushes futilely at the latched door and glares at us. The dog just stares at the door. The furniture is safe! Victory!

Easy to install for a novice. Holds the side gate closed securely. Price is great. And it is not a large clunky lock. Nice and petite but can withstand some heavy storm winds.

I had gotten a different latch before, same design but in white, but the end of the latch was curved (why?!) and would just pop open with a simple tap at the door. This one is STRAIGHT at the end and stays latched. Excellent. I just wish it were white.

Updated review. Beautiful latch & hook but the design of it requires different placement than how you would typically mount the hook & latch parts on a gate. The front part of the hook comes straight down with no bend so it requires the hook to be hung higher than the latch, because if they are placed straight across from each other it will hook, but is impossible to unhook. It took a couple different placements but we finally figured out how to make it work. Seller was responsive to our first negative review. 1st review. Beautiful latch but Bad design. Hook is straight on the front and therefore impossible to get unhooked from the latch once it is closed.

I'm easily the least-handy person in my neighborhood, but this was easy to install. This simple latch saved me a lot of frustration. Our regular gate latch can migrate an inch or more after a rain, because of our clay-rich soil that flexes like an accordion--far enough that it won't latch properly. This new latch now serves as my wet-weather latch, and I'll revert to the old one when things inevitably dry out again. It's solid, heavy-duty, and exactly what I needed!
