The y cable splitter supplied is rca to a headphone jack. the headphone jack doesn't fit the sub pre-out. i'm guessing that i need a different cable

Search for a 12 to 24v power supply i use a 19v one to be safe on pushing the amp too hard

Lap top 19v PSU is not correct DC plug, it fits but is sloppy leading to bad connection, or at least my two were, I had to fiddle around until I found a correct DC plug then connected this to the Laptop PSU, hope this helps someone As it happens the PSU of a BT router was the correct one, except this was only 12v 500mA, so I used the nopales of this.

What plug would the power supply need to connect to this?

mine is on a regular 3-pin (UK) plug. It works great by the way.
